A customer just called me and he just left from the dealer and they told him that his fuel lines were rusted because one injector is sticking or they say so.All they did was hook up their tech2 and look at it for about 5 minutes as he stood there. So they want $7000.00 to fix it.The question im asking is if it needs the lines where do i get them and should i replace the injectors. The truck is a 2002 with 140,000 miles on it.It smokes if you let it idle for a few minutes but doesnt present any other problems.Im going to look at it myself this weekend and would like to have some prices on lines, injectors, etc so if any vendors will chime in please do so.

If you know someone at the parts counter injectors run about $2100, plus core charge. If they only looked at it for 5 mins, they couldnt know whether the lines were bad or not, they probably just ran the balance rates to determine 1 or more of the injectors was out of balance. You should be able to just clean up the lines and blow them clear, replace the injector or injectors, might as well do all of them while your in there, unless cash is tight, new crush washers for the fuel return lines. I'd find out what the balance rates where and on which cylinders before deciding on anything though.

With the smoking at idle it will be a injector leaking and usually will not show up out of normal on a balance rate test. If you have the ability to turn up rail pressure at idle do it one kpa at a time until the smoke goes away. If it goes away then you can be certain that it is an internal leak. The fix is replacing the injectors. The rail will not be the cause of this problem but make sure that they are in good shape when you remove them. Clean them up well. You will spend most of the day replacing them since you haven't done it before.

$7K is WACKED! My dealer was going to do all the injectors and a new CP3 for $6K. I ended up doing it myself for a lot less and ended up with a better pump. :D

FWIW, the cheapest stock injectors I could find were at the dealer for $258 each plus core. I could have found them a little cheaper but would have had to pay shipping, which would have been more total $$.

I sold my extra injector lines but I just got back 4 injectors that I had cleaned and tested when they swapped some tips for me. Also have 4 bad ones for cores. PM me.
