They look good David , had i known when we talked last i had a few more weeks to run the truck i would have probably sent mine out to you to be done , oh well another build will be taking place over the winter.
How long have these been tested David? I wonder how they will hold up with heat cycles? Are they made out of the same alumn. as the head or something different? Buck has been running something very similiar for a couple years now. IIRC Steve Cole "that was painfull" Talked about this a long time ago and was a part of there "cupless heads" At least thats what ive heard
No one is above a cup failure. Stock trucks are rare unless you have done injector work. There is a greater chance then but when fixed right they should never lift again. Keep in mind people wanting to do it just to have the best of the best that it's 1450 plus 40 hours of your life pulling the heads and replacing your gaskets. Depending which cup you lifted could be a few bucks in loctite and at most 6-8 hours.
My puller has had more than it's fair share. That's why we are in the process of a similar route. Currently waiting on my slugs and time and motivation to pull the heads. I just don't see where the $1450 comes from. Seems to be about double what it should cost but then again that is the world we have allowed to be created here. Your first set has a lot of r&d sure.
Kudos to you guys for doing it. I will post some pics of mine when done and the processes we used as well. I tend to agree with Simon though that this is more of an extreme procedure for the high hp guys.
Why did isuzu determine in 04.5 that the cups were no longer needed at stock power levels? THIS IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT IT AND HAVE THE MONEY FOR A QUALITY SERVICE NOT SOME BACK YARD GUY WITH A WELDING ROD IN A POLE BARN.Of course you disagree with me. You are trying to justify your price and I don't see it being that high. I think it's great you are offering it and I'll leave it at that.
Most lb7 trucks have probably had injectors but this is not a must IMO. Yes we are all enthusiasts here but the majority of guys on this site don't need to go to this extreme. Most don't need head studs. You want cheap insurance, pull all 8 cups when you do an injector job and the problem is solved for the vast majority. I'd be willing to bet the highest failure time and rate is for the guy who just replaced the injectors only and one lifted as soon as it was put back together. and it's frustrating. I've been there. Some of this thread is just misleading that every lb7 owner should consider this.
How long have these heads actually been run? We are not talking about factory Lly heads here. Same theory I understand but custom vs oem.
