I feel for you guys. I am a mechanic and this year put one side of the billet injector hold downs in my truck for the injectors. Yea didn't do the other side cause I fookin hate working on my truck. Then got a good idea as to upgrade the turbo and once again nothing fit right and cussed through the whole thing. Sigh. I hate working on the engine of my duramax. Its so freakin time consuming.

What's everyone's opinions on heads? Thinking of getting a set of socal stage 1 when I tear into mine, but I'm wondering if I go and build my motor in a year would they have to go to a shop and be decked? Or do we only need to have a set decked when the gaskets blow?

Save your money. Do a box stock 366 now while its apart and easy to do! I have $1400 in my kit including the turbo. I bought it from trent nell back when he was in business. Dont know if anyone else has pricing like that.

Ok, but even if I just have my current heads decked, cleaned and tested. If I go ahead and build my motor in a year would it be recommended that I have the heads sent back to the machine shop and gone over again? Or is it only necessary to have them gone over when the gaskets blow?

I can tell you this, I worked at the dealer and did tons of head jobs. On duramaxs and gas jobs and the dealer never sends the heads off. Just clean the surfaces and use new tty bolts. I checked mine before I just put my heads back on and the most I found them out was .003". I can tell you that when you torque your heads down, that will be gone.

You just put a straight edge on the head and feeler gauge along it? What would you say is the limit before decking is required?

Well got the truck wrapped up today around 5 after I test drove it. I had a few hurdles today as well. Upon startup I had an injector hang open and dump tons of fuel into the exhaust. Not sure what happened but swapped the nozzle, spring, puck and spacer from the injector I had to slide hammer out and it was good to go. Took a while to burn all the fuel out. Everything is running smooth. Got home tonight and it had zero pressure on the bottle. Glad I have my heat back too since were supposed to have single digit weather this week
