First time I really messed with a trans of my own was when I did a transgo jr. in mine at 25k miles. I have over 100k now. Diesel Place has a great write up with detailed pics. Take your time and work in a clean area and you will be fine.

Just watch for that little cone screen. That bastard fell out when I was doing mine and it took me 3 hours along with a 12 pack of busch light to figure out where it goes. Its a messy job but easy to do. I suggest buying it from Mike L so then if you have issues he will help.

last week my tranny guy actually talked me out of installing one all together. He said as a DD, with nothing wrong i shouldn't mess with it. actually gave me some good reading material too.

That's shit advice...transgo in a 6 speed is nothing but helpful. I would find a new tranny guy.

I installed 2 of these today at the shop. As mentioned, work in a very clean area and take your time.

The only thing I dislike about doing them is trying to remember (still don't and I've probably installed 40 of em) is which bolts hold the valve body up to the bottom of the case and which ones hold the valve body together.

My only other advice is make sure you have a pretty good sized pan to lay on the floor under the tranny, when you drop the pan and start to remove the valve body bolts and filter... it can get rather messy.

Good luck to ya!

This is good advise right here(from carter). The Trans go IMO is a nessesity in the 6 speed, the 5 speed could use it also but has to be taken out and apart to install it so best to do a build on a 5 speed.

A word of caution, the last 3 I did all had burrs on the valves and had to be polished out. So make sure evrything moves nice and freely when you put them in. Also make sure the little spring that goes inside the end of the TRANSGO valves is installed correctly as a few of these have dropped out during install and caused some havoc for people.

X2...Watch for burs and make sure whatever your working on(like your bench) is super clean, when you split the valve body open do it over a pan or tray, and i steel wooled the two holes you drill out and sprayed it with brake parts cleaner before i put it back together, also when you put it back together be cautious, the tolerances are TIGHT you dont need to force the valve AT ALL!!! Oh, and keep track of those little ball bearings, one per valve, if i remember right? dont scratch anything, and remember to take your time, i took a picture of the valve body before i removed it, being able.to zoom helps, but really it is a pretty cut and dry project, if you plan to install a deep trans pan, now is the time, there is alot of fluid to replace!

The write up I referred to on diesel place tells which bolts to remove to just drop the valve body and the the rest will be removed to separate the two halves.
