Hello my names Chris I own a 2008 gmc Sierra 2500. I've owned a few ford's and 2 different dodges and now that I have a gm I will never go back. I absolutely love it. I searched for my truck for 2 months. I wanted low miles, all the bells and whistles, lbz or lmm motor, completely stock, with a budget of no more then 26k. Today's diesel market it was kind of hard to find all of that in Washington. I travel for work and pull a large fifth wheel about 14500 pounds give or take so when I planned my build it was around the fact that it needs to retain drivability, reliability, mpg but still have more then enough power for anything. Visually I haven't done a lot. Tint, color matched mirrors, handles, window visor deals, deleted the plastic hood piece, fabtec 6 in lift, 20 in fuels on 35s, Interior is factory loaded. Performance I did ppei kory Willis efi live with dsp5 switch, s&b intake, edge insight, flopro 5 in straight pipe dumped over axel to a 8 in octagon style black tip, airdog 165, beans sump, 1/2 braided fuel lines AN fittings, afe intercooler and hot pipe, high flow cold side and ybridge, full egr delete, ppe up pipes and 3in down, pcv reroute, fuel rail plug. The transmission has a shift kit, ppe trans cooler and ppe deep pan. I plan on a stage 5 ppe trans kit and efi tuning for it. Now my question to all of you is how much further can I take the motor? I do not plan on building the internals, I want 600 hp give or take I heard that's kind of the max for lmm internals? At this point my cp3, injectors, and turbo is stock. I don't know what my power is at now just need as little advice on what else I can do performance wise?

Your limit right now is your trans. Get that built with a max effort tune maybe a touch over 500 hp to the wheels is your max due to the turbo. Twins will get you there and are good for towing but will blow your internal signal easier unless your tunes are on point. Not familiar with the vgt turbos but the one Novak said are popular. Danville is he best for vgt turbos

Ya the trans is next for sure. I'm buying the kit and having a buddy install for me. Then send the efi off while it's being built to be updated. It's kory Willis so hopefully they're on point. So far they are killer tunes. So should I just do the turbo and not touch injectors or pump? I'm just trying to get safely close to my limit I don't wasn't to dump 10 grand into as motor build. I heard 600-625 is max for stock lmm innards.

Ya I was thinking Dansville too. I almost bought a cheetah from fleece but all of the reviews sucked. What do you think about compound kit? Using my stock.

S475 over stock compound setup is really common, it utilizes your stock turbo so therefore you still have stock spool time. Like Zak said it will be a night and day difference towing. Screaming Diesel Performance makes a good kit. PPEI has their own kit as well so wether you use their kit or not they should be able to build a tune for your liking.
You can go with 40% or 60% but it's not exactly necessary.

Stock fuel system with a lift pump will get you where you need to be. If they ever go out might look at some upgrades. I have the PPE kit too and it's great. But I've only heard great things about even at limitless diesel. Maybe contact him for a good kit. Or Mike L might chime in on ideas

Also you're using the word safe limit and 600-625 at the same time and honestly there's still a pretty big risk there. Anything over about 500-550 is pushing it. You might can make 600 last. Or it might grenade. Some guys do it. Other guys can't. Depends on your truck and tuning and driving style.

Sweet ya I have only recently started researching turbos. That's a good idea. I like the compound idea for what I'd use it for. So if I kept my stock pump and injectors but did a compound set up with good tunes you think I'd be up near 600? I hope the motor could take that. Should I do studs as well?

Ya I figured you were talking about injectors. Well with what I have already and my 180hp top tune I wonder where I sit hp wise. And ya I Def don't want it to grenade I've read a lot that 600ish was pushing it. With a compound set up or even a upgraded single idk maybe I should dyno it first?

based on everything that you are saying, build the trans get a max effort tune, and sit back and love it. You think that you want 600-625hp, but you don't even know what it feels like at 525hp on stock parts and a built trans. Try it first before you go hog wild. Remember that on 35's with a lift and I'll ASSume no regearing, you are putting more stress on your truck than the average guy.

Yes your probably right I'm getting greedy maybe. She shits and gets as of now With a basically stock transmission. And ya I geared it to 411s with a better mechanical locker in the rear.

If I were you I'd stick with a stock turbo. It's going to do PLENTY for what you'd like. 530hp is a lot of fun.
Ya maybe I will. I had a feeling if I did much more I'd be pushing it. Like I said not sure where my power is at but I run the top tune fairly often I have some stuff done in the trans but only stuff that would help towing and some how it shifts perfectly. The built trans is getting done in 2 weeks same with efi transmission tune.

May be a dumb thing to ask but it will be that much better with a built trans and efi to back it?
