So, i started the truck up finally after sitting for 5 months to move it into a different spot and put my new truck cover on. Well i finally got it started after charging the battery and after about two min of idling it quit hazing white and idled perfect. So i decided to take it for a drive. Didnt smoke white once nor make any kind of knocking like before.

So now im confused lol. Cyl 5 showed compression at 250 in march and thats the one that was smokin. Now all seems fine. Im doin a compression test again tomorrow but am i missing something here? I couldnt get it to stop smoking before no matter how long i let it warm up and now it stopped. Any one got an idea?

Maybe a valve seat not sealing/ cylinder head problem ? Def re-do compression check but that would be awesome if it was something besides bent rods .

Makes since to me. possibly the rings werent sealing well either due to some other variable that no longer exists. Hope it fixed itself :thumb: drive er til she knocks again lol

I dunno. Its really confused me. Even with it being hot out it should still smoke right if compression is low? It was about 80 back in march when it was smokin then

Got a scope you can put in the glow plug hole?

You think i got that kind of high tech stuff!?! Lol na but might invest in one.

I was thinkin though. I drilled my oil return for the 475 between the number seven and five injector on the valve cover. I wonder if some little shaving got left behind when i was drilling or tapping and it got caught in the valve train

Why did you drill the valvecover? I wonder if it smokes because the oil doesn't drain fast enough? Turbo will pass oil if there is a restriction in the drain line.

this is absolutely true, my first oil drain on my twins could not flow enough and i had a white smoke issue and was burning oil. make sure that you have good pitch and a large enough diameter for gravity flow, there can be no pressure in the drain line.

Its not the turbo. no oil in the charge pipe or down pipe and i put a hard 3k on it before all this started. Smoke would stop as soon as i shut injector 5 off back in march. I drained to the valve cover as thats where trent puts his drains and it wasnt that bad to do. The drain had a nice angle to it and should cause no restriction. Not to metion, you dont smell buring oil coming out. it was the smell of raw diesel

Hey, just a thought. I hope you do have good luck with not having a bent rod

lol i know. i pulled the charge pipe back in march tryin to narrow it down. This is just weird though and im not really sure what to think. im trying to diagnose and it seems to be leadiing more and more to a valve train issue. I could see it causing the smoke if the valve was hung open causing low compression. that would also give me the low reading on the tester. I also would explain the smoke stopping when the injector was shut off and the high balance rate i was getting when it was smoking (+15)

How are the balance rates now? When I had bent rods, it would stop smoking when it was warm but the balance rates would still be off (not as much as when smoking, but more than when the rods weren't bent).
