At Microcenter, Sunday only, no internet sales. http://l2.microcentermail.com/C2L/er.aspx?k=73C65kiUc-YbfohMjYYZe9jHZYf-nVciT7nCzYTof_-EJLMD7L1p4w$$

There is a $90 instant discount from the posted price.

What is this?

This is the unlocked "enthusiast" Intel i7 Sandy Bridge CPU, which is the newest technology CPU.

You can overclock easily using the Intel Windows Overclocking tool. You just turn up the multiplier, nothing else. People are already running these chips past 4.5ghz. This is pre-release data from those who are Intel beta testers and magazine editors.

It requires a LGA 1155 motherboard, which is an all-new design.

What does that mean for consumers and gamers? i7-980X 3.33ghz performance ($1000 chip) for less than 1/2 the price.

For Duramax Scientists, this mean BigAdv folding has never been cheaper. Throw a $150 mobo, 4GB of ram, a 400w powersupply and case, a DVD+HDD, and for under $700 you have a really mean machine. Should be over 40k PPD, with much lower power use than doing it with video cards.

They can be officially sold Jan. 9.

Tom's i7-950 is turning 32k PPD right now at 4ghz on Bigadv with no GPU clients. So the 950 is pretty good in it's own right. There will ALWAYS be something faster/cheaper the day after you buy.:D

Rob - Only certain Intel chips will run dual CPU, and these aren't one of them.
Dual CPU Intel's are select models of Xeon. Not even all Xeon's will run in duals.
For today's modern Xeons, you are looking at 55xx and 56xx series.

The Sandy Bridge Xeons will come later in the year.

I want to build one of these, but I have no use for it, unless Kat wants a new computer.

If I did ...

I'd build Lil' Monster:

Small ITX case, with 450w <11"x7"x9"
ITX LGA1155 motherboard
i7-2600K at 4.5ghz
2x 2gb of DDR3-1333
1 TB HDD
60 GB SSD for booting
GTX460 graphics
This would fold at ~50k+ PPD, and act like a i7-980X @ 3.33ghz. Play most games on high settings, and stream HD video without breaking a sweat at 1920x1080.

The only one I would consider getting rid of would be my work computer that keep changing the to year to 2999 or something like that. But, I do like the alloneinthingy. Less mess on my desk :baby:

Might try changing the CMOS battery if you haven't already. That might fix that problem.

I wish it was that easy.. I guess it's a known problem with Dell Studio One computers... I almost threw it threw the window in my office today  Instead I threw the mouse:cussing: It was my own fault though. I changed the date to 01/18/10  and billed a couple of customers.

They all change the date to 2075 and I also found out they all have the wave sounding fans.

Pat offered to build me new computer again... But, of course I'm being stubborn:eek: I don't want a tower on my desk.
