What can you do different with an auto cal? From what I understand, they suck and I would never buy one. Can you even change Ecm mapping?

you would have to talk to those that use it but the way i understand it, its like a canned tuner that you lock to a ECM but with EFI Live tunes. You cant change any of the mapping inside but the tuner is able to.

Yeah exactly what I thought. So I don't see why anyone would want that, you can't even tune the truck with it lol

the thing im unsure of is how new tuning is put on it if you can do it via the web from your tuner or if it has to be sent back. still better than yanking your ECM to send back for tuning changes and its still good EFI tunes if the tuner knows what hes doin.

Autocal is cheaper and it is similar to a locked ECM however you don't have the down time of shipping ECM's around the country

AutoCal doesn't compete with FlashScan - they are 2 different products with 2 different markets and uses, and unless you are buying in bulk you can't actually purchase AutoCal from us.

AutoCal is effectively a hardware device that allows professional tuners to compete with the traditional handhelds in the market place - PPE, Bullydog etc but with benefits. In many cases the hardware is rebranded so you wouldn't even know it's an EFILive product.

Benefits include transmission tuning, multiple vehicle tuning, data logging and email tune revisions, so handhelds no longer need to be a one size fits all solution, they can now be custom tunes.

FlashScan on the other hand is a tuning tool where the end user can make changes - something very different to a handheld device like AutoCal.

AutoCal shouldn't be thought about as an EFILive product - it's a method for a professional tuner to deliver tunes. Like a traditional handheld, the tuner you purchase an AutoCal through is the only source you can go to for tunes (the device is married to the tuner's FlashScan)

Unlike a traditional handheld the tunes can be custom written by your tuner, and simply emailed across to you. You have the ability to datalog, so you don't need to be proficient in describing in detail to your tuner what is going on and what you would like changed.

Beings you have a single tune LLY, it is probably locked with a custom seed key. I don't think even a TECH 2 can flash it now, but I'm not sure. I've read that LB7's locked with a custom key cann't be flashed even by GM, but not sure on LLY. Best bet would be to see if a dealer can flash in the stock tune for you and go from there.
Spoke with a guy from duramaxtuner.com (think it was Bob)... and he mentioned this same thing. Said a locked LLY ECM can't be flashed over, not even by a dealer.

I have been tuning duramax LB7/LLY trucks for 7 years, all locked ecm's cannot be written over except by the tuner who locked it.

No other hand held tuner, software, Tech2, nothing..........unless you have the custom seed key you are SOL.

Find the original tuner, ask him for a unlocked ecm in exchange for his locked one.....then you have either a usable core or a ecm you can flash.

Good Luck

Is the Autocal able to do a complete re-flash of the OS or just a tune update? Reason I'm asking is I was told that I need to do a complete reflash to fix my low rail pressure code issue.

I would guess a full flash because they send it out I'm the mail to people who buy tunes through dealers. That would be the only way they could load a dsp tune

Thanks Cindy...He made some changes to my stock tune so that the P0087 code wouldn't set as easy. So i guess I need him to email me whatever I need to flash to my ecm. I just want to be able to use the race tune without it coding halfway down the track.

thread kinda got derailed a bit...

UPDATE: Got in touch with the guy who tuned/locked the ecm (again). after doing some research, figured I'd give it one more shot, no harm in trying. Glad I did - He is going to help me out and unlock the ecm for me! :D He was real cool about the whole thing and is going to help me out. so guess I won't be needing to buy a new ecm afterall.

Thanks for the help everyone. :thumb:

yea... I've spoken with them a few times. With my ecm in it's current (locked) state, they would not be able to re-flash/use it, therefore i wouldn't be able to exchange it to avoid core charge (pre-tuned ecm). i could purchase the pre-tuned ecm but would have to pay core charge - was trying to avoid that. and I've considered the Spade route as well... but I think I'd prefer to just get the ecm tuned.
