Havent got around to an injector balance yet. I'm thinking they could be OK if it was just the piston that grenaded, not sure, i guess we will find out soon enough.
#5 should be +12. The others shouldn't be too far out from normal. I think most of mine were slightly negative.

Ok, looks like i might be needing to skim as much as i possibly can from the cylinder, the first two pictures are from each side of cylinder #5, the damaged head is above #7 as is the gasket....... i guess if your gonna do something do it right!

I just hope the block isnt trashed, ive been doing some reading and apparently 0.040 you can machine out of any cylinder and in some cases you can skim up to 0.060. If you skim that much what else do you have to take into consideration?

The head isnt that bad apparently, just a quick skim will clean it up, oh and i guess the gasket probably wont see anymore action  .

too much timeing is a bad thing...

looked at a stock LLY tune
ect multiplier can add upwards of 18* pending ect temp we need this
IAT mulitper can add upwards of 4* penidnd IAT temp
fuel can add upwards of 23* pending fuel temp and we also need this

on top of base timeing:eek:

perhaps not quite that high after increasing are main inj timing, but it is needed IMO

Also It should still only go as high as the max timing table allows ,Right?

Now you are talking. To me it looks like the stock LLY tune was done with a crayon.

Do you know why they do this?

possible that this dont belong in charlies thread though:angel:

I have not rationalized a lot of what I see in an LLY tune. It makes no sense at all to throw in advance as IAT increases. That is combustion suicide IMO.

Max timing tables should be a limit, but I have found several tables that did not work, which do work now, after a lot of post-release combined effort. IAT Timing and IAT Boost didn't work 2 years ago, for example. But I couldn't build a wastegate tune without them, so Ross kicked them into gear.

That is another point worth mentioning: some of the tables that look foolish, never worked from the factory. Now they do, oops.

Interesting about the IAT now working I remember modifying the IAT boost table and it doing nothing years back......After that I never touched or messed with them

Good to see they are now active:D

As far as any of the multipliers go,I tend to just modify them from what ive raised in main timing and lower the multilers acordingly.Seems to work good for me:)

Well, looks like the block isnt trashed, should be able to skim it and rehone, not sure yet if i will need oversized pistons though. At least something has finally went my way in this rebuild! :baby:

Well a month and a half have gone by Charlie. Hows it coming?

You must be sick of wearing that paper bag over your head driving that Dodge to work every day!!

Well, it looks like all the machine work is practically finished. They had to bore the cylinders out and i managed to get away with .020" over, I got some of Guys pistons to match. I guess the heads wouldnt seat properly and they needed a little tidy up (looking at the pics of the gasket its easy to see why, that was where my small but consistant coolant loss was going when i thought it was just venting). Captain Ron has a little bit of magic still to work. But he is supposed to be done this week.

I just got a tune Pat flanged up for my truck, most of the parts are at Ted's, i'm just waiting to hear back from Central Diesel Injection to find out if my injectors are ok (they are only charging an hours shop time or 80 bucks to test all 8 injectors).

Things are falling into place, not much left to do but start getting it together, Ted has time next week set aside to work on my truck, so hopefully by the 21st of this month that HTT might be spinning again. :D:D

And not just because im tired of driving a 2wd POS dodge half ton.
