Mudding/finishing drywall. :rofl: ...especially trying to blend it into 150 y/o horsehair plaster walls. Good Lord, this sucks.

I redid one of my bed rooms in the basement. Hanging drywall is no big deal. Mudding and texturing sucks! Before I talked to anyone I kept going over the mudding trying to get it to be as smooth as I could like doing body work on a car. Figured that was the best way to do it until I asked a mudder on the job site and he laughed. I got one more bedroom to redue according to my wife and someone else will be mudding and tapping it! I have the first two coats done...last one to come. I found years ago that I didnt have the fine eye to do bodywork/bondo, and this is the same damn thing. Ugh.

I don't mind hanging drywall...I hate finishing it.
If we have a small area to do we'll tape it and finish it...otherwise the finish work gets subbed, they can do it ten times quicker than I can.

I have some bare drywall I stare at daily here. I hate tape and mud. I feel for you Tom because blending it in is far worse than my project.

They make this kind of tape that makes finishing 20 times faster its got a sticky side to it and your mudd holds in it better
The mud guys I know told me to stop using that. They all recommended old school, 5 minute mud in the joint then cheap tape and a wet mud rig. Maybe I'm just that bad at this.

How much water are you using when you mix it it needs to be about like pan cake batter to do good IMO I hate drywall just about as bad as anything but if it will help pay the bills Ill put on them toejo shoes and sling mudd with the best of them

Everyday.... I hate the shit with a passion but its part of what I do. However to those of you who would rather hang sheetrock, come help me for a day. 5/8 rock on the lid, 4x12 sheets on your own..... Anything to do with drywall sucks in general.

You're using a jack right? I'm doing a small house and I picked up a used jack after the first weekend of this crap.
I keep being told the mud guys fix all the drywaller's mistakes. I need to fire my mud guy.
Nope. I broke a ladder cuz i dont use one. My ass is somewhere north of 300lbs and a sheet of 5/8 is about 100lb..... Ladder said duty rating is 225lbs. Not no more. :rofl: Now I use a bigger ladder but still hang rock by myself. I do it enough, I can handle them without much problem. First couple times I did it, I was cussing like a sailor..... 12 foot sheet of drywall flailing around over your head while you're up a 6 or 8 foot ladder.... Hell with that!!
Water? What water? We use the premixed mud. I be a homeowner, not a contractor. :rofl:
Its going ok, I just have a habit of spreading the mud on far too thick. Sanding this stuff is horrible. Last coat tomorrow, then we'll see.....

Why in Gods name arent you using a drywall jack? My brother bought one when he did his house and that thing worked slick!
As for 12 foot drywall...you should have seen Roni and I bringing four 4x12 sheets home in the truck. :rofl: Sometimes a shortbox just doesnt cut it.

I hated toting that thing aruond. Drywall is only part of what I do. I have another 2 tons of tools that cycles its way through the bed.
I'll agree with you on the shortbox..... I miss my 03 for the longbed. Dont realize what that extra 18" will do..... (chris, waiting on some beans humor on that one) :rofl:
Tom we are mudding a wall now an one thing I learned from the boss is use least mud as possible. Start out with a 4' knife an work tour way up to a 12' for floating. Anne we don't do the old nasty way of sanding we do wet sanding with a sponge an it smoothed it out so nice with no mess, it's great
Tom I thought you were going to say being POTUS. But yeah mudding/texturing is a messy job tedious too.
I always hated the finishing. Hanging isn't so bad, mudding inhales rather briskly!
