I have an old EFILive folder that somehow lost or never got all the correct security settings. It does not have an owner set, and because of this, I cannot delete it. There are hundreds of files and a dozen or more folders inside of this folder. I am having to manually go in one by one and set myself as the owner, then go into the security tab and edit the permissions so I can delete each file. This will take me hours doing it that way. Is there any other way I can get rid of the files and folders without doing all this work? I really need help with this. :help:

Usually you can right-click the top most folder then change the permission there. There should be a box you can check that says something along the lines of "change all child permissions". That will take care of any sub-directories and files. Once it goes through you should be able to delete everything all at once.

Safe mode was a no go.

I found something about that in a Google search, but I don't have that option for some reason. The closest thing I have is if I go to Properties->Security->Advanced->Edit there are two check boxes there. One says, "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent," and the other says, "Replace all existing inheritable permissions on all descendants with inheritable permissions from this object" (I assume this is the same thing you are referring to). If I check that box and click apply, it pops up a window that says, "This will replace explicitly defined permissions of all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from Old EFILive. Do you wish to continue?" I click yes, and another window pops up that says, "An error occurred while applying security information to C:\Users\Josh\Desktop\Old EF...2002_CorvetteZ06_LS1.tun Access is denied." If I click continue, that message continues for every single file in the folder and nothing is changed. If I click cancel, nothing is changed.

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on? This thing has me completely lost.

Are you logged on under the Administrator account? It seems to me it's acting like you are trying to delete another users files. Just a thought.

My account is set up with administrator priveleges, but no, I am not logged in on the Administrator account. I tried, but every password I try doesn't work. I honestly don't even remember setting a password, and anything I would have set it to isn't working. However, I am the only person who ever uses the computer. There are no other users even setup on it.

I just realized. I'm not running XP. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm not sure what I was thinking last night.

I'll see if I can change the Admin password.

I got it. Thank you all so much for the help! Logging in under the Administrator account did the trick.
