I am thinking of getting EFI

First, is there a way to learn it without blowing up my truck? I know that on gassers, the 02 sensors get used for getting optimum air/fuel ratio, but I don't know how it's done on a diesel. I understand the mechanicalness of diesels, but not the computer controls. Just trying to learn.

I downloaded the software for practice/learning purposes, and holy crap, where to start? I did find the DIC section for making it more accurate, but it it all applied mathmatics? Oh! I found how to change tire sizes for speedometer accuracy. Right now I just don't feel very bright.

ive actually learned more by reading through the data logging area on here than playin in EFI. You can find out what each table is and get a "dummed down" verson of what the tables mean lol. Just start reading!

as long as you have a full understand of what each table you adjust does and you have common sense i don't see you hurting anything

Man i have seen some amazingly hoorible tunes people have built and the guts these guys have to put them in trucks is even more amazing! lol just utilize the search bar... that has helped all of us. Find Josh's timing calculator, do some seriouse research and check out the 20/20 tuning tutorial... There is so much info out there and especially on here. Have fun and dont be scared, but do double check what your doing before you do it! log log log log log:thumb:

It is intimidating at first glance, but once you get a basic idea of what each table does it isn't that bad. There is a learning curve to it, but start off with small changes and you'll be fine. And DP's only real usefullness any more is the search function in the EFI section which has alot of good write-ups and tutorials from years past.

Check out Pat's (McRat's) 20/20 Tow Tune Tutorial... GREAT info and a great place to start. Once you successfully build yourself a tune it will but rather rewarding

Also get Egt and Boost guages before eventhinking about tuning.

Back up your files (especially your stock tunes) and stay organized. The EFI manual suggests keeping a list of tunes and comments about what was changed. I have rough notes but wish I would have dedicated a note book earlier.

I have built a tune but I no longer have enough experience to tune my truck for what I want out of it...but the key to it is keep the changes small and log like most have stated if you know what everything on the truck is/does then you will notice problem areas and see what needs adjusted to achieve the desired effect...the tables work together too so you need to learn how they affect each other and things like that...just practice and read you'll get it:thumb:

All great advice! Thank you all! I've got an EGT gauge and pillar for two gauges. I'll get a boost gauge next. If I were to get a triple gauge pod, what should be my third gauge? Could I use my Banks PDA?
