I just started putting my bottom end back together with new clevite hx series bearings. I used some green plastigage to check the clearance, I am coming up with .0015". The spec is .0015"-.0028" that is for a production engine. This is going to be a performance application so I would think having it on the loose side of the acceptable range would be better? or no?

The dmax builder I know wants .0035-.004 with hx bearings I dont know if that is spec but that's what he likes

Thicker. i dont know why older threads i looked up said they are thinner, they arent from what im looking at. gives you just a bit of wiggle room for a spun or messed up main though if you run on the looser side of tolerances (or beyond) and run an HX bearing.

Not at all don't know why you'd assume that. The engines with the extra clearance had much less bearing wear than the priors with less clearance
