James, I had the exact same symptoms. Started Feb 18th, I didn't get over my cough and chest tightness until the first of last week. I told my wife I hadn’t been that sick since I was jr high when I came down with the flu. I also tested negative for the flu. I agree with Chris, it’s been here since December IMO.

I think it's gone thru my group of friends already as well, a few got so sick they ended up in ER. Hopefully, my family was the 80% that really don't expirence much.

I also had something in early February that lasted 10 days or so. I can only describe it as the absolute worst cold of my life. Super congested and short of breath for a few days then it slowly went away. Initially chalked it up to allergies from pollen buildup mixed with a cold. Now I am curious what it was exactly. I never had a cough so who knows

couple of my friends had the same thing,,totally nasty cough and fever, started to fade after a week but still a slight cough and head congested for a month.
I kept my distance and got slightly sick but not knocked down like them.hoping I self vaccinated to it.time will tell.
btw,MA is supposedly going to a shelter in place on Monday.just when work was ramping up,,damn it.

It went through my whole family over a 3-4 week period.

It lasted 2 weeks and 2 days for me personally until I started really getting more energy and feeling better.

Had a fever. Chest was so tight at times that I could take a deep breath at all. Very shallow breathing was it.

Talk to several people with same symptoms that all tested negative so you guys tell me. Lol

In the end, its probably what I had. Tested negative for flu, but took 3 weeks to shake. Add that to the gastro thing I had the first four days...ugh.
Nice to finally feel human again.
Daughter had FluB, and she was treated. Took almost two weeks for her to get back to normal.
Wife did have RSV, and mild pneumonia. She was also treated. She's almost back to normal now too.

Its been a strange month in our house, thats for sure. Who the hell knows how long this has been in-country anyways?

I (did) work for a small local weld shop owner/operator ran. On Thursday they cut our employees down to 6 and expected us to take up the slack of 4 people each. On Friday I was floating back and forth cutting parts then welding then run out to unload trucks. Then just before noon they told us all to shut everything down lock the doors and go home until further notice.
Pretty much my main job was to draw parts on cad and cut out parts needed via cnc plasma table (like RickDLance has for sale:hug:)
Are main bread&butter was stainless salt spreaders(Smith's), we had already been getting the effects from China orders of parts/metal needed not coming in. We also did side jobs for the local hospital and even on site welding, not sure how they will get what they need now.
Yesterday our governor is letting the army pick n choose from any building/land they want to set up what they think is necessary to control the virus (or us?)..
I think I may be immune, I don't get sick very often never ever had any flu shot nor the flu itself and I'm 43, nor have I ever had chicken pox, rarely get a cold. But I'm definitely not immune to poison ivy:(.
Our company will likely not recover from this as we had just changed management twice within a year trying to do more than break even.
I keep coming here to read because you guys are my eyes for what's going on elsewhere. I do not know anyone here personally but feel like I do from reading so much about you all.
Be safe, prepare for the worse and hope for the best I guess, Benny.

I can’t tell if I’m overreacting, under reacting, or both say the same time. The small animal vet clinic I work is business-as-usual and a good number of our daily clients lately have been in the at-risk category. The Superstition Mystery Mountain 3-Gun match that I volunteer at every year is still going on this weekend, despite losing a number of out-of-state shooters to travel restrictions and accommodation cancellations. Traffic is pretty minimal, but I’ve noticed more people are driving like A-holes. Maybe because there is less traffic?

GF is sick hopefully its just a head cold as no fever. I was down with sinus / allergy last weekend. Still have a bit of cough and congestion.

Went to grocery store this morning, when I got there they were only letting people in about 6 at a time (guess to avoid social crowding in areas). Pre cut cold cuts were GONE, ramen noodle soup GONE, air products were hit or miss, bread isle was slim pickings, rest of the store was hit or miss.

Good news is they had plenty of TP when I got there even though I did not go down that isle or pick any up. Saw one of the local cops in uniform with a buggy full of TP and paper towels (guess restocking the station). Another couple behind me in line to get in had 2 buggies of TP and paper towels. She said brough him to help get the TP.:roflmao:

Amazing we had an overstock of stuff 2 weeks ago, and now people are acting like its the end of the world.

Yes we need to be vigilant in taking care of ourselves, yes we need to minimize contact with strangers for the short time, BUT hoarding some of the things they are is just ridiculous. I see picking up cold cuts and a few other things b/c we are working at home and need the extra stuff where we normally grab something quick at lunch just to get out of the office.

I went to times square for coffee yesterday and there was about 10 ppl there. Bums were aggressive considering the tourists are all gone. I drove across town and on a bridge in 10min, usually takes 25. We have a maintenance contract for a hospital but i'd rather stay away from there for a couple of weeks, it's filthy to begin with.

Well they postponed our next 3 shutdowns till summer. So we now get our summer vacation in the spring. We will just hang out at the campground for the next week and then head home. NC is better than home this time of year. Nobody sick yet. Be safe all.

I think it's time to find employment elsewhere if there is any.

There isn't any.

It doesn't seem like any of our elected officials "get it", but another couple weeks of all these businesses shut down (or worse, more of the lockdowns like Cali, NY, IL), and there's going to be millions or TENS of MILLIONS of people without jobs, a majority of which don't have an emergency fund big enough for expenses (a.k.a. food and shelter) a few weeks/months long.

If/when it gets to that point, the reaction to this virus is going to kill many, many times more people than the virus itself will.

James, I had the exact same symptoms. Started Feb 18th, I didn't get over my cough and chest tightness until the first of last week. I've never been one for conspiracy theories, still am not. But I absolutely believe that this thing has been around for many weeks, if not months, longer than "they" think it has.

I read an article a day or two back looking at some of the math / statistics of the early stages of the outbreak in both China and the US. In both cases, it was several weeks after the first cases were confirmed before the government stepped in and started strictly quarantining / isolating the infected. If the virus is anywhere near as contagious as the experts say it is, then, at the absolute minimum, if would have spread to hundreds of thousands of people during that time period. Since the "official" number of cases during that time only went up by a few hundred, then this can only mean two things:

1. It's not actually as contagious as we're being told.
2. The number of people that have it now are at least an order of magnitude or two higher than the official count.

I think it's a combo of the two, with a tendency towards there currently being millions of people that have it / had it.

The Diamond Princess situation reinforces this as well. A small handful of people got on the ship already infected (unknowingly), and they quickly (within a week) spread it to roughly 20% of the total passengers on the ship (~700 out of ~3700). If it spread at even a tenth of that rate here on the mainland once it arrived (assuming the first documented case was actually the first case), it would have spread to millions of people by now, bare minimum.

That's not to make light of the virus; it's definitely a very serious new threat to older and/or sicker people. Measures should be implemented to try and protect those people. But if there really are millions of people that have this virus already, then that means the death rate decreases by a factor of 10 or 100. And if that's true, then all of this "shut-everything-down" nonsense needs to stop, and it needs to stop soon.

While I do have a good sized emergency fund to help pay the bills and stay in the house for some time. It doesn't currently contain any provisions for the lack of food or supplies in the stores. That part is what scares me the most. While it does look like there is some stocks making it back on the shelves. It is likely more due to the rationing being implemented here.

My city has zero reported cases but they are acting like it has infected half the people. While I do understand the need for precautions, what they are doing is probably going to make things worse. This could take years to recover from the economic impact just like in 2008

My work is still running 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. We've shut down once to disinfect for a day and once for inspections after the quake for a day. I'm working today and we had a decent aftershock that shook the building pretty good but everything is still running thankfully.
I to like others got sick back in December but it didn't drag me down to bad. Sore throat dry cough fever stuffy head. Lasted for a month and went to the doc after a couple weeks and they just told me it was a bug going around.:dontknow:

I agree with you Sneaky, tho trying not to take to the conspiracy's the numbers just don't add up. And how serious the gov is taking this compared to how many actually die and how compare that with other ways you should be worried about dieing just confuses things more.
Your right about we need to get back to work asap!
Farming season is just around the corner, where are the farmers going to get the seeds/fuel/parts they need to feed the animals we need to keep produce/meats on the shelves??
Funny cause my gf is more worried about cheese and ciggs than anything else, she is a day to day liver. And it is the day to day living people that will be affected first, when their money runs out and hamburger is $50 a pound how long will the money last? They put a freeze on rent and bills for now but still. Luckily we have a fair amount of wild animals and fishing spots. And what about the children, my Gf's kids will starve before eating fresh fish or squirrel for say and I myself went and picked up a bunch of garden seeds for summer. Hate to say but sounds huge change is coming.

There are many jobs considered "essential" that will continue to be performed no matter what. Found out today that UPS/FedEx/Post Office are on that list. As to farming, they are essential, and so are the businesses that supply them. Heck, even fast food workers are considered essential.
