How to identify a Allison / 5 or 6 speed.

Looking to buy a "core" six speed Allison, to build, then just swap mine out.

Does the absence of an external NSBU switch definately ID the trans as a six speed?

I tried using the serial number, without any luck.

If you can pull the pan and see the nsbu inside its a 6speed.. Judging on the pic that's a 6 speed but someone could have pulled the nsbu I guess..

I've never seen a printed serial number tag on a 5 speed. All the 5 speeds I've seen had stamped serial number tags.

Looks to be a 2007 according to the part number and the Julian date looks like 7/19/06

If you get a trans out of a 2006/2007 Kodiak they have 6th gear but its been locked out by the TCU so its never been used. FYI

Picture indicates it's an LBZ. Has an engine speed sensor.
