Nobody else asked, but where did the AWACS plane go after that? Emergency landing somewhere or did it crash? You dont see it at all in the rest of the vid...not even a 2nd try?

Looks like it broke the boom. On S3's, sharp maneuvers will break or snap the basket off the hose. There are a lot of forces at work, and not much room for error. The AWACS likely had to go to another aircraft to refuel, or landed if the pilot heard the boom strike the airframe.

IIRC, we lost a KC135 and a B-52 with 3 nukes on board near Spain when they collided during a refuel.

Edit - 4 H-Bombs. B-52 crew parachuted safely, 4 on KC-135 died in the mid-air explosion.

When you break away like that, you go to the bottom of the block (almost always 1000 feet below the tanker) so that is why you don't see him again. Looks like the boomer disconnected it time so didn't damage the boom, but when you get close and high like that you push the tail of the tanker up, and that causes him to descend into you. From the looks of that pushover, my guess is they over Ged the airplane and went home after that
