I was under the impression the truck/tranny learns to shift different when in T/H mode, and won't my already bad fuel milage get worse in T/H all the time?

Tow/Haul is designed to be most effective when the vehicle and trailer combined weight is at least 75 percent of the vehicle's Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). See "Weight of the Trailer" later in the section. Tow/Haul is most useful under the following driving conditions:

• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load through rolling terrain.

• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load in stop and go traffic.

• When pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load in busy parking lots where improved low speed control of the vehicle is desired.

Operating the vehicle in Tow/Haul when lightly loaded or with no trailer at all will not cause damage. However, there is no benefit to the selection of Tow/Haul when the vehicle is unloaded. Such a selection when unloaded may result in unpleasant engine and transmission driving characteristics and reduced fuel economy. Tow/Haul is recommended only when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load.

He said anytime you have a load or a trailer, not ALL the time. I also use T/H in both trucks with a load or a trailer.

Just curious why you say that you have bad fuel mileage. I am getting 16-17 city and 20-22 highway in my 2007.5 LMM. I was happy with that economy after driving my Chevrolet 5.3 liter gasser for 10 years. The Chevrolet 5.3 gasser got 15 city, 18 highway, and 10 pulling my boat.

Ok thanks guys, I bought my truck used and did not get an Owner's Manual with it

I commonly run around with 1000 or 2000lbs of salt in the bed and realize that it decreases my fuel economy. . . I just don't want to make it any worse if it is not benefitting the truck and I wondered if I needed to be in T/H to protect my trans. I always keep the trans temp on my DIC just to watch it

I get 15/17 and i do a lot of stop and go city driving and almost always have between 1000/2000 lbs in the bed. . . and I still have a functional DPF, so I don't expect much more, I just don't want to make it worse

My truck always has that much in the bed, sometimes more. I never use T/H except when I'm dragging a trailer.
