My advice on rebuilding stock turbos is to not waste your time or money. Run it until it breaks and then buy a used one for a couple hundred bucks from someone that upgraded and repeat the process.

My current turbo isn't really broken at all, but the vanes are starting to stick which is hurting my MPG. I was looking at pulling it apart, cleaning the rust out (likely cause of sticking), adding a very, very thin layer of high temp (nickel-based) antisieze to it all then reassembling, but I figured I would do a quick rebuild of the rotating assembly while I was in there already. The Garrett rebuild kit seems very easy to install and I figured I would have everything cleaned and balanced before I put it together again.

I was looking at doing something like this:

Given the situation would you still just junk the turbo and try another one?

If mine ever comes out I just want to put a batmowheel in it I think from Fleece so many guys like the performance from those, hope it's a good idea to do that way so it runs a while after the new wheel goes in.

It's unfair for me to answer this question.... I would tag that turbo as needing disassembled and cleaned and set it on the shelf, then grab one of the 10 known good chargers and a BatMoWheel off the shelf, put them together and install it on the truck. I would only end up doing anything with the bad charger if I ran out of good ones, which at the rate I install aftermarket chargers I don't see that happening.

It's a t-3 turbo so you need the after market pedestal but it is a good turbo. You can pull anything but it takes a bit of fuel to make it happy. I make around 700hp on it and it has good daily driving characteristics.

I have one I don't need anymore.
