How much $ to rebuild turbo?

My siverbullet 66 has some "in and out" impeller shaft play. is any play ok? secondly how much should it cost to rebuild. I have been told $1000

I had my S300 rebuilt and turned into a 66mm for 600.00 but probably got a discount . i cant imagine more than 600-700 for a rebuild .

I had my S366 rebuilt by high tech for 300 dollars. That was for new bushings only, if the wheels need to be replaced then obviously it would be more.

If Industrial did it with new wheels and shaft it would be 700-800. I would think it could
Be done for as little as 500.

It's a t-3 turbo so you need the after market pedestal but it is a good turbo. You can pull anything but it takes a bit of fuel to make it happy. I make around 700hp on it and it has good daily driving characteristics.

I had new bushings and regrind the shaft, for 600.00 from HTT. BUT I wanted to upgrad to the SS turbine housing, so HTT gave me a whole new turbo for 1000.

Check with Alamo Turbo in Edmonton or Calgary. Not my preference because they were A-holes to me, but they can rebuild a BW.

This is also where I would send it. Don't know about the arsehole factor but Simon has been using them with good results/feedback. I sent a 4294 down to them that I bought and found out it was NFG which pissed me off but they didn't charge us anything for the work as we bought a turbo from them. This is your best bet to get anything done locally IMO.

We can get you whole cartridges for cheaper than that, as has been said a rebuild should be about $300 as long as there hasn't been contact with the housings and the wheels are in god shape.


Dustin, is this $300 including rebuild parts, rebalancing and labor?

Where do you guys send your turbos or do you just rebuild them yourself?

Turbo parts are individually balanced - the compressor wheel is balanced by itself, and the turbine wheel and shaft is balanced itself. You can put the 2 together any way you want and it will be balanced. Think of it like this: if tire companies zero balanced tires and rim companies zero balanced rims you wouldn't have to balance a tire/rim combo after mounting.

But parts and labor for a rebuild (without wheel damage) is $300 for an S300. An S400 is not far from that.

Thanks Dustin, I had heard that Garrett individually balances all their parts, but I was looking for someone that would media blast my LLY's T37 compressor and turbine wheels, mic the shaft and then check them all on a spin balancer before I reassemble everything again. It's a bit of a pain to take out the turbo so I want to make absolutely sure the job was done right when I go through the rebuild process. Any further insight/help you can provide on this would be greatly appreciated. :thumb:
