For a compitent professional swap depending on what kit and axle you use anywhere from 5-10k. Its definately not a cheap swap especially if you have to pay for labor. The parts alone are not cheap.

Where are you located?

For a pro to do it using a 4 link setup and nicely rebuilt axle or a super 60 out of a 05+ ford with ABS for our trucks and our hubs for the correct bolt pattern, switch t-cases for fixed yoke front, drive shafts, ect your lookin 10k+

If you can fab, dont mind using leaf springs, use an older king pin axle, source used parts, disable ABS, Keep factory t-case and extend the stock or switch to a Double cardan extended driveshaft front (still using factory slip yoke) i can see it being done for under 4-5k. You can probably even go less but just dont cut corners.

i think my biggest issue is going to be someone helping me do it because i know a shop is going to destroy me on labor... nor cal truck is the only place i seen that would do the whole thing and they want 15k lol

honsltey in my oponion its not worth the money theres nouthing wrong with ifs u just have to do some work to make them hold up so what u spend makeing them hold up is nouthing compared to a sfa swap but then again thats just me man i wonder if u found all the parts axel ect then took it to a shop then all u have is labor to pay for

yeah maybe, but a sfa looks soooooo much better

I had about 3 grand in mine with leaf springs! Factory drive shaft with a conversion joint used in the front. I used a 79 ford axle!

You used their leaf spring mount kit? If so, what did you get the leaves out of? Did you use their steering kit or just fab up your own? How about the panhard bar (limits side-to-side movement)? Were you able to run it pretty parallel to the drag link (hooked to pitman arm off the steering box) without interference of either with the pumpkin?

As soon as I have funds, I think I'm ordering their mount kit.

I have a offroad direct kit sitting in the garage (leaf spring). If I get the tires & 79 dana 60 sold to a ford guy in town I planned on parting out the rest of the kit, all new parts. PM me & I can send you pics.

I'm running excursion springs (dearched) Offroad direct high steer kit, which comes with a new pitman arm. I'm not currently running a panhard bar and havent had any issues!

how much are you guys paying to do this swap?


My SAS that I have in my truck with 78-79 Ford HP 60

$800 axle purchase
$200 3.73 HP 60 gears
$150 gear install labor
$150 new diff bearings, solid pinion spacer, seals
$100 Ruff Stuff diff cover (seen Dana 60's stretch the differentials under big wieght and stress
$60 in new steering u-joints
$200 in new brakes
$20 gear oil
$140 rebuilding king pins
$150 in new wheel bearings/races/seals
$270 high steer arm and studs/nuts and matching cap (grub screw preload)
$300 for steering box and pitman arm (4 blind) reamed to 1 ton tie rod ends
$200 in link tube
$650 in link ends/bolts/jam nuts/inserts
$200 in track bar
$300 in steel (fabbed all my parts on CNC plasma table)
$35 in conversion u-joint for front driveshaft
$200 in drag link
$1100 in coilovers
$100 in cutting/grinding consumables
$1000 finding out that stock wheels don't clear 78-79 brakes (hell, H2's barely do...)

+hours of R+D, heat, electricity, lost time I could have been making money...

When I added my Duramax brakes back to the front, ABS functional again, matching wheel studs to the factory rears, machining the hub to fit GM wheels, sway bar, and some other finishing touchs it was about another $1200? I lost track honestly... Sure I am missing something...
