I just did a full service and then some on a D4 friday and repacked two cylinders on a mini bobcat track hoe today and adjusted the brakes on two trailers. How much do you guys charge for side jobs. Mainly by the hour? Thanks, Eric

If it was me I'd charge flat rate. I'd be like 300 to swap out that waterpump, including parts..... But then again I don't do side mechanic job stuff

I should have said on heavy equipment. Its very hard to charge flat rate on big stuff lol. I usually do charge flat rate on 1 ton and lesser vehicles through mitchells quotes. Thanks.

Fabrication is between $75-$100 an hour, you furnish material I furnish everything else. Depends on what it is and how heavy. I always charge by the job when wrenching.

A buddy i used to work with thats a mechanic just text me back and said he has been charging 50 a hour on the side and people don't blink a eye. I guess being good at what you do helps too.

Thats what i was thinking. The bad belts, Leaking control valve, Lift cly, I picked up on the D4 would be crazy amount in the field for a field call when they fail. I would think most field rates would be more than 100+ a hour and most shops these days around us charge 80+ a hour.

How much does it usually charge to put in a 50 yard long driveway these days? I could trade labor for some work!

$30 an hour is to cheap-- it takes you away from your family, your leisure, and then you have the responsibility of guaranteeing the work. :)

I would guess if the word got out, they would line up for your work at $30, when shops charge like $125 an hour. :D

You are right. Thats one of the reasons i worked friday, saturday morn, Sunday afternoon for like 5 hours, and 10 hours today all to pull 4 tens the next four days at my normal job lol. Its a good thing i have a awesome wife and no kids yet. Maybe 50 a hour is right on. Guys with dodges and duramaxs dont blink an eye when I charge 250 for a efi live tune. Maybe i should charge for for taring up my body on all this heavy shit i work on.

I usually charge 1/2 local shop rate. Which is between 40 and 60 $ an hour depending on if it's an atv/utv, car/truck, or a tractor. I don't do much though, mainly just stuff for friends and friends of friends etc.
