How many here pull, drag race, and use your truck as a tow vehicle?

Sledpulled a half-dozen or so times. Its fun as heck, but beats the living crap out of the truck. I'm not expecting to do it anymore.

Have around 50 passes at various drag strips around lower Michigan. What a thrill to do almost 110mph in the 1/4!! My truck is 1.33 seconds FASTER than my '83 Mustang ever was....and a heck of a lot more streetable. (Yes, the '80s sucked for performance, and I knew nothing)

Travel Trailer? Carhauler with F-250 on? Large loads of dirt/stones/mulch? Yep, I tow with it.

Plus the things you forgot.... You can take the family anywhere in your truck, you can go 'wheelin if you want to, you get relatively good mileage for a 7000lbs vehicle, etc....

Tom, mind me asking what you feel is more harmful to our trucks, drag racing or sled pulling?

I use to say the same thing Chris, but then a few ideas were offered up that some people use to justify sled pulling is less abusive than drag racing. Not saying they are right, just an idea to ponder.

Drag racing short version: staging at the lights, building boost, letting go of the brake and launching, all 4 tires(or 3 if you have no front locker) hooking up and racing down the drag track. Then the thought of blazing down the track with 500,600,700+ horsepower on the allison transmission(assuming it is built) Sure the alli can handle that kind of power but for long.

Is holding power in 5th gear easy on the trans?

Sled pulling short version: Hold brake, build boost, roll into the throttle, release the brakes get to movin, wheels start spinning, down the track you go. If you have a good amount of power and the sun is alighed just right you will hit 4th gear.

Does the alli hold 500,600,700+ horsepower on the pulling track in 4th gear better than say on the drag track in 5th gear?

Food for thought.

While we are waiting for Tom, I say sled pulling is more abusive...What do you think Josh?

pulling harder on motor
racing harder on drivetrain

thats what i think

Sled pulling, because of the longer run time at WOT, with the major RPM stress at the end of the run, and also its just tougher on whole truck (frame, drivetrain, body, etc) as a whole. You're carrying more weight while sledpulling, too.

We sledpull a lot, but not sure I agree on how much damage there has been to the truck. There is plenty of stress, that's for sure, but not sure there is any real wear and tear. I'm thinking towing a heavy load in hilly terrain on a hot day is worse than drag racing or sled pulling.

Never had a sled behind me, but I have had a few mired motorhomes behind the Dmax, does that count?

Truck see's daily abuse, at least 20K towing my toyhauler and various other trailers.

Seen some track time too.

2 out of three ain't bad. I would say the motorhome pulling in the sand is similar to pulling a sled, 30K and WOT:D

All of the above (Drag, Tow, Sled, Wheel, Dyno, DD)!
Tow the 28' toy hauler to the track, unhook and go race! If there is a pull not to far, im there unless it's Jul-Nov.

I pull a gooseneck, truck pull and drag race. if it has tires you can race it. and they come with a hitch so they are made to tow or pull. right?? and it is fun and very addicting

Good catch..Add Dyno to mine also.

Highest EGT's I've seen were on the Dyno.
