How long to learn bigger tunes? tips and tricks?

I daily drive my truck, and do so normally on tune 2 or 3. I get the best mileage with the two tunes and hence why I like using them. Now, tune 5 is way more crazy than the others (obviously right?), but its a heck of a difference even from tune 4. My trans flares shifts like crazy when I go to tune 5 to have fun. It will even act like it wants to shudder the converter at half throttle or so (danville's tunes have very aggressive up shifts). I spent 30min one lunch break doing these half throttle runs to 70mph or so with tow haul engaged. After that 30 min the trans felt like it was finally holding the power much like it should but still felt like it was having some troubles at times. What are the tips and tricks you guys would have when a guy wants to have some fun in tune 5? I mean do I really need to spend that much time ironing out the trans so it shifts and holds power correctly?

Trans mods:
alto clutches
tolerances are all on the low side
converter flow valve
transgo shift kit
pump spring shim
Mike L's shift valve springs
Dex 3
fresh 1056

Transmission only has maybe 500-700 miles on it since it was built.

Save TH for tune 5 only. Don't use it for anything else. What kind of pressure are you running in the Alli?

Okay awesome Mike, I was trying to find some info about the alli learning TH. Good to know!

And honestly Mike, we have never checked. Is this something I can do myself easy enough? I'm assuming I'll have to get some fittings and gauge?

What spring are you running in the pump or is it only a shim? Ask your builder. I can tell you the pressure when you find out.

What I have can't hold 600-630hp reliably? how the hell do guys hold 800-1000hp?? Run those new GPZ clutches and a ton more line pressure? Crazy how much these transmissions need done to hold 600hp.

Your builder should have told you this.

How thick is the shim you are running?

As far as relearn, follow Mikes advice and keep tow haul for your aggressive tune. However, driving in normal mode will still eventually make changes to the adapts in tow haul also. So you should still give it some time to learn before hammering on it.

Doesn't seem like much to me.

Try getting a 4l60 to hold 600hp and 1000ft/lbs;)

The shim was the same thickness as what comes in a PPE kit..I can't remember how thick it was. I had a shim from PPE that I had to send back, and before I did I measured it and had my buddy make one.

What is a more acceptable pressure Mike?

And it would be nice if I had guys like yourself close to me, but I dont. And I wish I also had the cash to send a trans down your way, but again being a house is in my near future some things get more attention than others. The guy who built it doesn't have near the experience the big allison builders do. He does good work, but again lacks on the experience side of things.

He's running a .128 shim. That puts him right at 255 psi. Stock is 230 psi.
He should be at around 300/315 psi for his level of power.

Anyone have instructions on how to test pressure or know what Trent used to do builds? He said mine was done exactly the same as the one in his truck that ran 11.0.
