How Important Are Billet Main Caps in a Build?

I ask because that is the one thing that I didn't order from Guy. It totally slipped my mind when buying all the rest of my Hi-Po parts. Output is to be 1000+RWHP. Thanks!

I have billet caps, filled block, and a girdle, overkill? Probably but I wanted the bottom end as stout as possible

I didn't fill the block or get a girdle either. Shit I hope I don't fukc myself! Motor is already built so no use in crying now. But thanks for the info guys:thumb:

I don't think they're necessary, but I also don't think a lot of the stuff going into motor builds are necessary or have proven to make them stronger.

Interesting. I wondered about that too. What I don't understand is the LB7 guys, which includes me, still have problems with injectors lifting even with billet holddowns. I have those installed too but have yet to start the motor.

I have never lifted a cup.....yet with 90+ psi of boost

I do run billet hold downs

My last motor showed small sighns of crank walk after 3-4 seasons of 700+

i half filled this block and ran billet caps this time around with a girdle
time will tell i geuss

same here, no billet hold down for me though, 100psi boost on the large tune.
safe timing/ lower cylinder pressure can help keep from pushing injectors or mains walking.

Ive seen signs of crank walk in 500hp trucks that get the ever lovin dog shit beat outa them every day.
on the other hand our orig engine in the puller running 700whp was fine and current built engine with std caps @ 900ish is fine.....

The hold downs are a crap shot , I went 2 seasons with out issue on stock hold downs , and then this last year popped them several times on less boost than the previous year and less HP since the truck never ran long enough to get turned up all the way . On the billet caps and other parts it depends on budget , IMOP if you don't have to worry about budget I would do the same as Nate ( all 3 ). In my truck I felt the girdle and 1/2 fill on the block would be more affective for the money spent , but also raced a whole year above 1k hp on stock caps and bolts with out issue , so they can be skipped but I feel that if you expect the bearings to last several years you need to strengthen the main bearings . On the builds we do I usually stay with main studs only if its under 900 hp , if were going over that we go to a girdle .

I went with billet main caps myself but that was mainly because I spun 3 main bearings and that ruined 3 of the 5 main caps. Guy told me on the phone if you do the main caps and main studs a girdle is not needed.

Id rather go with the threaded/welded cups rather than the hold downs

X2...and as far as the billet main caps are concerned, I just haven't seen how they are necessary compared to an identical motor with stock caps and studs. You'd be surprised I think just how many of the "fastest" or "quickest" or "most powerful" duramaxes in the country are running just stock caps with studs and extra clearance bearings. many of them are not internally balanced, or girdled, or any of that.

just what I've seen so far...
