Pro mar line from sherwian williams. I can talk to u mon about it
Some know I live & work at Boy Scout camp. We have 21 structures NOT including signage. Many types have been used over the years. I use nothing but Porter Paint here.
whats wrong with benjamin moore? We have been one of their bigger dealers in new england for almost 20 years and never had any complaints. Many big painting contractors all over CT have accounts with us and they all really like it.
you want a real paint, get that schreuder dutch paint. But its like 100 dollars a gallon.
Ok here we go, My fathers father was a painter/general, my uncle is a successful painter, and my father is a very successful painter and I currently work for him. STAY AWAY from Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and all Home Depot/Lowes brands. For interior paint it really doesn't matter much honestly UNLESS it is used in bathrooms due to heavy moisture.
BUT for exterior paint you need to use 100% acrylic paint we use Dunn Edwards it is the best on the market(It is what real painters use). We guarantee all of our outsides for 5 years. Depending Kat on a few variables... what the current condition is of the house ie peeling paint, dead paint, if there is any fungus(green looking film) on the eves of the house all play a roll in what to do.
If you use Dunn Edwards this is the paint to use per area of the house.
Exterior Body(siding): Eversheild it will provide a very light sheen to protect from UV... I recommend not a very dark or deep base color as on your house the sun is on it a majority of the day
Exterior Trim(fasca board, gutters, trim around windows and doors): Permasheen is a great product I recommend the color KM23 it is a Kelly Moore color in Dunn's paint it is the richest white there is. we use it on 95% of homes we paint.
Primer: Dunn's EZ Prime is great for bare wood, if there is any bare metal you need to neutralize it with vinegar(wipe each area) then spot with Dunn's Ultra Grip
Also Kat when you wash the house either using a power washer or washing the house my hand(extension pole w/ scrub brush and a TSP/bleach solution) you MUST MUST allow several days for the house to dry before you do anything else. I highly recommend taking the time to scrape the house of loose paint. Then caulk every open joint, seem, and crack to allow for total protection. Also 2 coats of finish on everything is highly recommend and we won't do the job unless the homeowner agrees to use 2 coats.
you say "benjamin moore is overpriced". So I interperate that as "equal in quality to Dunn Edwards, but just more expensive, so we use Dunn Edwards"
No im not a painter, but for being crappy paint, we certainly sell lots of it to VERY high end contractors/homes (like, homes for example, that are built with a 10,000 dollar Heartwood front door, yes people out there will pay 10k for just a front door ) and painting contractors and we never have any complaints about it. Not arguing, just wondering why you think poorly of it.
Dunn Edwards is number 1 period in california, they have mock up posters there laboratory does test draw downs and scrubs and sees which ones wear out faster.. they compare apples to apples, and as of yet no one can hold a flame to them.. that's a fact.. with that being said, each paint is formulated for different climates so perhaps DE would not hold up to well any colder or more humid climates.. they even labeled a 'California Formula', because they had to lower the VOC's so much in california that it amazes me that the paint even sticks to cardboard anymore.. there are far more better paints out of cali, but DE is the big dog in its hood..
Ditto, X7... Dunn Edwards surely is the cream of the crop in CA.. Vista would be my second choice..
Why don't you guys have a 'paint party' like the good 'ol days and have some diesel heads come and have fun?
or if you'd like I can give you the number to one of my guys (who's a painter) and he'll give you a bid..
also keep in mind, in most case's you'll spend more if you buy the paint yourself as you're not going to get the contractor's rate, if you want peace of mind just make sure you get unopened paint cans with the guys you hire.
I know many licensed contractors in your area, or like I said I can give you someones number, excellent painter but unlicensed...
for your stucco:
Dunn Edwards: Acri-Flat or Vista Paint: Acri-Bond
for your trim:
Dunn Edwards: Acri-Flat or for sheen the perma series enamels, or Vista's Durabond for flat.
There's a Dunn Edwards off Mckinley and the 91 in corona..
As we have used Acri-Flat numerous times I would disagree here For an overall better finish Evershield is the way to go especially on siding which they have
