Fill out your sig so people know something about what truck you have, very helpful. One thing that can cause overheating is too much fluid. If it's too full, the fluid will foam and cause overheating. Best fill point is just slightly under the "hot" mark when checked hot on a level surface. Trans temp should be about 100 degrees above OAT. Do the easy stuff first, like spin-on filter and check your coolant stack. Do you have an aftermarket grill? Some can restrict airflow to the cooler.
How many miles on the truck?
Define light load, and over what kind of terrain. There's tons of variables. I'd guess a fluid and filter change wouldn't hurt though.

This was my radiator with 175k on it, CAC, AC condenser and tranny cooler were not nearly as bad.
How many miles do you put on in a year's time?! If you do more than 10K miles/year, your spin-on filter needs to be changed ASAP. If you don't know the last time the trans fluid was changed or if it looks, smells or feels funny, I'd go ahead and change it too.
Checking and cleaning out the cooling stack would be next in line.

One of the work trucks here on the ranch with 80k. Trans and engine temps dropped a good 25* after I cleaned the cooling stack.
It ran about 200* today in a 12 mile drive, not towing anything. Checked the fluid level. It was below the hot mark. So should I take it to the Chevy/GMC dealership? Or can any old shop do it?
