2005 GMC, currently have a wrapped OE hood that is starting to lose its appeal.

I started thinking about options and so far have three.

1) Buy a junkyard OE "close enough" color hood
2) Buy a junkyard OE hood, prep, and paint it
3) Buy a aftermarket glass hood, prep and paint it.

I would love to get a glass hood to shave a little weight off the front and perhaps get a small cowl version for the looks.

Does anyone have experience with truck glass hoods? Brands to stay away from, brands that require less/more prep work etc

Thanks :thumb:

I have a single layer race fiberglass hood for my race truck, pin on/off style that is 15 lbs. It's definitely not a "DD" friendly hood so I would go with a multi layer at minimum

Yea, do not want a hood pins or that nature of stuff.

Just looking to minimize prep work, the glass hood on my camaro was a lot of prep even before it got to paint prep.

Stock steel hood painted to match. The stock 05 hoods look good to me. Aftermarket fiberglass hoods that bolt on like factory generally aren't all that much lighter due to all the bracing to be able to bolt to the factory hinges and keep from ripping apart from being latched at the front center.

TX of course
The hood options for our GMCs suck IMO. I would just paint a steel unless you can find a nice one.

I didn't even realize it was a GMC when I wrote my earlier post. I change my answer to 05-07 Chevy front end conversion. :thumb:

Could do a 01-02 hd hood cut to fit the GMC lights. I always have liked the looks of them.

Glass hoods suck fitment wise. you will be putting in some work to get body lines right and keep flex at bay.

Yea, pewter GMC, would like to keep it GMC. :thumb:

So far, seems like steel OE or aftermarket is the consensus.
