We're noobs to traveling pretty much. Our wedding is this may and now that its pretty much paid for, Im trying to get some ideas for our honeymoon.

The trip will be either this fall around october, or early 2013 like late january/early february. We are leaning towards a Mexico/carribean cruise ~7 days right now. We would consider a resort too but neither of us has been to one recently. I've only been to Atlantis like 10 years ago with my parents on a company paid vacation. It was awesome but way expensive!

Looking for some suggestions and do's and donts.

What we want:
7 days or so
Mexico or Caribbean
Beach
Want to try some snorkeling possibly
Good food
Under $2k-$2500 with airfare if that's possible.

We have been on one carnival cruise and loved it (the premier performance cruise in jan 2011) except for it being so crowded and how expensive the booze was. Awesome food and always plenty to do though. We also loved the places we stopped (Cozumel and progreso) Cozumel was the tourist trap where we sat on the beach and got drunk at a nice beach resort and progreso was a small authentic Mexican town so we got to do some shopping, got dirt cheap massages, AWESOME authentic food and got to see some Myan ruins. And I got to use my Spanish skillz lol.

I've never planned a vacation before but since its our honeymoon I want to make sure its what we want and something we wont ever forget!

Do you guys suggest a cruise or resort?

Is all inclusive worth the money? We do love to eat often and drink lots!

Big name resort or something off the beaten path?

Mexico or somewhere in the Caribbean?

Know of any good websites that compare and have reviews of cruises and resorts?

I'm sooo lost right now

We had our honeymoon this last December and went to the Dominican Republic. We did an all inclusive stay through Apple Vacations, which makes it nice because you know exactly what the total trip is going to cost minus souvenirs you buy there.

Last May my wife and I went on our honeymoon to Jamaica. The name of the resort we stayed at was Couples and we stayed in Negril. It was great and everyone was super nice! The staff was more than happy to do anything for you. Oh yeah, when you get on the bus outside the airport to go to the resort, tip the bus driver:thumb:

The budget isn't set in stone, but that's about what I should get for a bonus this year. I figure a couple could do a cruise pretty easily for that much but I don't know about a resort.

PS sorry that my OP all showed up in one big paragraph. It was spaced out nicely on my phone when I typed is :(

Went to Hawaii on my honeymoon and it was the best vacation I ever had. We went all out and it was the best 5k I ever spent. We got the airfare for wedding gift from my mom and dad. I think 2-2500 is going to be difficult with airfare especially if your looking for a memorable experience. Make sure you take your marriage certificate along because you will get upgrades and comps for being newlyweds. Don't plan too many activities in a row. We wore ourselves out after day 3 from doing so much stuff. Seemed like we were on to much of a schedule and not enough relax time. Congrats and good luck!

Cant beat a cruise for the $$ but you get what you pay for..;)

Jamaica is inexpensive and a cool experience but having to go on group tours to see everything sucks. If it was not for the drugs and violence I would probably go back at some point but last time I was there our bus was escorted from ocho rio's back to montego bay by military police with assualt weapons since the locals were rioting and shooting people/cops...:(

Hawaii is were we went on our honey moon and its absolutely beautiful, the ocean, coral reefs and island are all great. On the flip side it's very touristy and things are rediculously overpriced IMO.. We literally waited a hr & 1/2 for breakfest in a beach front resteraunt then got a $60 dollar bill for some eggs and juice with a view  Other then to many damn tourist ( Maui ) and being overpriced its a nice honey moon destination IMO...

One of my Favorite (Tropical) destinations is Costa Rica :thumb: Check it out there is alot going on over there and the prices are very reasonable. If you guys are into action excursions at all this place is ideal. I did a Dirt bike tour that was awesome!, we rode over volcano's, through rain forests with monkeys and all sorts of crazy wildlife running around, to simply cruising down the beach and stopping for drinks/lunch:) Not saying to take the new bride out on dirt bikes (Unless she's into that :D) But the beaches are pretty amazing, theres snorkeling, jet ski's, zip lines, surfing, etc, etc.. OR just hang out on the beach, get drunk, and enjoy the awesome scenery :thumb:

Costa Rica does sound nice. We both kind of want something that has a good balance of the touristy stuff and the authentic stuff that makes you feel like your in someplace exotic. It'd be nice to have the option to venture off the beaten path and not get mugged or anything.

suggestion #1 dont get married

suggestion #2 go on vacation alone its alot more fun

suggestion #3 if you skip the first two, my wife and I went on a cruise in october to the carribean a few years back for our honeymoon. We couldnt beat the price except for the booze like you said. BUT i learned a couple cruises ago on carnival that you can have bottles of liqour deliever to the room for cheap. So i had 3 bottles of vodka and 3 bottle of captian morgan delievered to the room for around $40 a bottle....and i still had a $800 bar tab:confused: Saved us some money i guess.....i remember a captain and coke being like $10

If you go to Costa Rica, make sure you are on the Atlantic side. The Pacific side is much more.......not American friendly. You can take day trips to the other side. Panama is also very fun. Specifically Panama city.

We went to Cancun stayed at a riu resort, all inclusive. It was a pretty goood time, but I agree with the others about doing to much stuff, we flat wore ourselves out doing snorkeling, jet skis, and general site seeing. If I remember right I paid around $2500 for everything, except what u spend there that was 5 years ago also

I am going to a sandals resort this sunday for 7 days. Getting married on saturday. 2500 will be tough for 7 days anywhere you go but the most affordable way is a cruise from what my fiancee and I looked at.

Wait until 2 days before the wedding and find a last minute deal to a 4 or 5 star all inclusive resort. You'll have a great time pretty much anywhere as a trip is only as good as you can make it.

I showed the lady the Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas. She really liked it and the idea of an all inclusive resort. And its about in the budget too.

At least I have a starting point now
