Ok....
For a lot of you guys this won't mean much because you probably don't want to modify the underside of your hood this way.
Not to mention that on the stock turbo a 5" pipe probably provides next to no performance increase...
But I like building custom stuff. And trying different approaches... Built a 3.5" downpipe, built both IC pipes... figured I better finish it off with a 100% custom turbo inlet setup... and why not make it super short too?
I bought a 5" to 4" Cobra head 90.... thing is HUGE! I was pretty sure there would be no way to fit this in there... and it took quite a while to do so. But it actually works out really well and is damn big inside flow wise. Some 5" pipe, and an aFe dry filter top it off.
Turbo is LOUD!!! I love it... partially due to the short piping, and partially because the big ass hole through the back of the hood lets a lot of sound out
I have read that air rolls off the windshield and feeds back down towards the hood.. (cowl hood's take advantage of this). I enlarged the hole I originally created to vent heat out at a stop and put a thermometer in there and started checking temperatures. To my honest surprise it runs very cool... it holds decently cool temps clear down to around 20mph before heating up.
I have seen temps within 1 degree of ambient with this setup while doing 65mph.... usually 4-6. Slower speeds it will run up around 8-10.. and below 20 mph it will reach 15-20 over. Not bad! Thinking of building a shield to help the cool air to surround the filter before entering the engine compartment....
I think it flows about as well as anything could on a stock location turbo setup, short and to the point.. turbo is loud as hell. And its custom! Here are some pics of this whole ordeal. Thanks for looking guys!
