I made my own intake from a k&n ram air filter from a dodge and some pvc. Im losing power now and getting codes p0101 and p0299. Anyone know whats goin on here. is it a posibility that the maf sensor is not sealed good enuff on the setup and is sucking outside air in? And can i correct the issue without a programmer. need some feeback please. the truck is an 05 chevy 3500 flatbed dually duramax

Your 101 code is a mass air range problem because you have changed the piping to your intake . You need Efi live to rescale it . Your 299 code is a turbo under boost code which could be related

i saw another thread somewhere else that the maf has to face exactly a certain way all i did was remove the box but maybe the maf is a little off from how it was centered in the box

You are correct , it does have to face the correct way but also has to be rescaled if changed from original setup

Only need to rescale the maf if the diameter of the intake changes where the maf sensor is. And the maf can only face one way, one is right the way is wrong. Don't have to make much of a science by getting the exact degree though. But be sure the maf is not in a bend.

Lets see a picture of the setup...

Bends and other things can throw off the readings the MAF picks up. Being too close to the turbo for example can create some erratic readings (especially at lower flow). Not a huge issue on our trucks, but can be a real pain on something that actually relies on the MAF for fueling (gas stuff).

a few things.. i had it just laying in there before but now the filter is propped up and i plan to screw it down or something. also on the original box the maf looks slightly turned idk.. but i reset the codes and its working for now. main thing is there is a lot less turbo lag and u can hear it a little more. the pvc is 3 inches and the original opening is a little over 4
