If one was so inclined to put on their OEM hitch with grade 8 bolts from the hardware store, what size/length/thread pitch would I be looking at?

They're metric, and I'm pretty sure they're at least 10.9 which is practically identical to a grade 8 bolt of a similar size. They may even be 12.9. I don't have any stock bolts I can measure, so I can't give you any dimensions if your bolts are missing.

Might order a custom setup from bigchevyhitch. Com

I forgot the stock hitch has a couple bolts that go through the bumper...which I don't have either.

Just make one or have a friend make one. Surely if you don't know how to weld, you know someone who does... ;)

Big Chevy hitch or something from aribagit.com ??

Something else?

I built my own. It is hidden behind the rollpan and hooks up through the hole behind the license plate. It was really easy to do. I haven't checked the price on any pre-built hitches, but I doubt they're cheap enough to make it a bargain. I didn't have much in materials or time. Maybe $50 worth of materials and probably 3-4 hours total to build. I take it you don't weld, and you may or may not be able to talk James into building you one :D. Worse case, you could draw something up and have a welding shop build it for you. I think you would still come out ahead once you figure in shipping a big heavy hitch and all that.

I have my stock one here I could cut tabs off or something. I want it hidden behind the roll pan. I'd like to be able to have someone to sue (besides myself) if it falls off and makes a school bus crash.

For reference they run about $200 made and powder coated.
