History of the high performance duramax

Okay so I have been sittin around wonderin who started all this crazy HP and TQ hunting with the D-maxes.

Who was the first to make 400, 500, 600, etc? I always thougth Nasty Girl was the first to 1000HP but maybe I am wrong. I just thought it would be cool to know who made all the inovations who made these monsters what they are today. Who are the Pioneers?

Though it never has been publically proven, I'd venture a guess that Keith/Nasty Girl was not the first to go 1000rwhp+. I'd say Kyle Michael/Crank It Up holds that plaque but like I said, it was never publically admitted as being such. Close second was probably ATS's Boogie Max. Neither were public but IMO both were certainly over the mark a year or two before Keith.


Whoever the first cat was to stack an Edge Hot Juice w/ Attitude and the Quad 215 probably had the first 500rwhp truck. I know locally there was a guy with an 03 that did 500+rwhp with it in 03. I don't know how much before that the bastard stack was discovered though??



I'm sure either of these accounts were achieved via nitrous and/or propane before either were done with #2 only. To take a stab at who was the first to do any of it w/ drugs would be nearly impossible I'd say.

It does! I was just looking at threads from Sept 2003....when 500rwhp was amazing!

I think the Spruills, BMDMAX or Tomac were in the mix for 500, 600 and 700. After that, I just dont know.

Keith was first to 1000 without "help".

In 2001 we brought the Duramaximizer to the market. This product was a first and it is still used today to make the fuel system more efficient on the Duramax Diesel LB7. We quickly learned that efficiency of the engine could be increased by raising the fuel rail pressure and increasing the pulse width and rate.

As far as national recognition for the Duramax...the first one I recall was Tomac...Pat was the second I heard of.

As far as tuning...Quadzilla was the first "high hp" tuning I was aware of.

I'm no expert, I'm just going by personal experience.

I would think Kyle had some of the higher power numbers with his black CCSB before he retired it to tow duties. Look back at his website at some of the older videos (pre-Climax). That truck was tough and the first running dual fuelers.

I dont know much about "Climax".

Climax is probably the least talked about truck for what it has accomplished. I don't know when he got it over 1000 but I was told that it was over 1300hp on fuel last year. Not sure if it is still the case but Kyle was running 3 CP3s and an Aurora 7000 on it. It's getting a new body and tube frame for this year.

yes, Kyle was certainly the first of the strong duramax trucks with his 03 (I think it's an 03) beings it was the first that I'm aware of that had an aftermarket charger and dual cp3s.

X2 when everyone else was just useing the bastard stack plus climax has been around for what 3 or 4 years and when it came out it had a ak5 as the little charger plus the big one and that was when the ak5 was a big charger by its self:rofl: kyle may be a bit of a smart ass but he does know his stuff

I havent been deep into the Dmax scene back in the begining, because i didnt have mine, but a do recall seein the name McRat alot and this "Team Salad" and both being the shiznit! :rofl:
