Highway humming/vibration and low speed steering clunk

Hello all,
I hear a pulsating humming while driving on the highway over 55mph. The faster I go the louder and closer together the "pulses" get and under 50mph it's hard to hear them at all. I have no idea what it could be, at first I thought it might be engine related, however I suspect not because even if I'm at 70 mph coasting down through 55 with 0% throttle I still hear it, however it quieter than at constant speed. Could it be U-joints or tires out of balance?

Also, when turning past 1 full rotation of the steering wheel at low speeds I hear a loud "clunk" from the front end. It isn't the upper intermediate steering shaft-I replaced that and I know what that sounds like. It isn't the green plastic bearing on the steering column either- I replaced that a few months ago and I know what it sounds like too. Basically everything on the front end is relatively new (30k), meaning upper control arms, UCA bushings, tie rod ends, pitman/idler arm, shocks, wheel hubs, upper ball joints, lower ball joints. Except for the lower control arm bushings- could that cause such a loud clunk? I can sometimes feel it in the steering wheel. Sometimes I can't feel it at all. It seems to be worse when I am driving/turning in reverse.

Thanks all,

Nothing? Extensive searching shows basically u-joints and unbalanced wheels/tires as the cause of vibratoin on the highway but its not constant.

Yeah both hubs are roughly 30k old. Replaced them at 150k. The clunking only happens when turning at certain speeds, if I stop completely and turn the wheel there is no clunk, also if I am going probably >5mph there is no clunk. Its only at low speeds.

means nothing. ive seen them go bad 10k after putting new ones on. check them again. then id pull the drive shaft and check all your u-joints

Rusk, Tx. Again
I had to lift my truck up and spin the wheel and FEEL for it. It felt like it was rough when I spun it. But had no slop. Of coarse the REALLY LOUD growling driving around was my first clue. lol

Thanks fellas I jacked it up and felt a little slop in the passenger side wheel. I ordered a new hub and some U-joints as well cause those are OEM and looking pretty tired even if it isn't the cause of the humming. :thumb:
