Mt alternator is going to crap. The bearing is squeaking. I need something high output at low RPMs. Found one by power bastard that puts out 125amps at idle and 250 amps at 1,200 RPMs. Sound good to you guys? Any recommendations? I already have an extra harness for the high output. Any of the vendors here sell something like it? I plow snow, so it is a necessity! Thank you!

The ones that come on 06 to I think 2010 Dmax's are bigger don't remember exact specs maybe someone else will speak up. I know they fit I put one on a 02 a few months ago because I had a spare laying around wish I would have put it my 04 instead.
If you buy an alternator for less than $250 your getting junk! Been there, done that TWICE!
I got a mean green Alternator hand made in Latrobe Pa that spits out 220 amps and idles at a TRUE 90 amps, not some drummed up numbers.
$279, I picked it up. Had it in 2 trucks now. My 01 first, transplanted into my 06. That is 6 years old fellas! You can keeo that O reilly's junk!

X2 on the O'reilly junk. My cousin didn't have enough money to buy a GM starter for her Saturn. Bought one at O'reillys (Lifetime guarantee) Which for me is a lifetime replacing her starter (So far on # 2, within 2 years) On the plus side, I'm getting really good at removing and installing the new starter
The stock alternator is an AD-230 and is 105 amp. The AD-244 was an option from 01 on for high output single applications(130 or 145 amp applications are both the same alternator), and is a great upgrade. They will put out an honest 80-90 amps at idle, and top out around 140 amps or so when they are hot. If you need alot of power, then I would do the dual upgrade option and go with dual 130 amp units. That should cover any power needs you would run across.
Off Topic Question: If a truck is not equipped with dual alternators, would the wiring harness be equipped with the plug for the second alt?
I have gone through a lot of alternators too. Hoping to look for something really good. The one from power bastards was $360! THe curent one on my truck is supposed to put out 119 @2000rs and 209 @ 6000rs.
Cant overcharge as ling as the regulator is good.
No stock alternator will put out 90 amps at idle, get a voltmeter and read it. 40 to 50 if your lucky. Max output will vary by manufacturer by as much as 20 amps and 1,000 rpm.
If you have a camper with dual deep cycle batteries plus the 2 in the truck, plus lights, AC, Radio, fans and a couple cell phone chargers, you will be overtaxing a 145 amp alternator. You would be ok with duals.
I have a coolant filter mounted where the 2nd alternator would be, so I had to go bigger single. Mean Green is american made, stand by it and worth every cent. Like I said, mine is 6 years old and strong as the day I put it in.
Can you get cheaper? Yep. Can you get a better alternator? Nope.
6 years and 2 trucks later, still got mine and before that I had 2 in 2 years at $200 a pop. Mean Green was my choice for a reason. I had 5 batteries hooked up and a 2,000 watt stereo with dual dvds.

I would do duals. Its been a few years since I was heavily into car audio, but we could never find dependable HO alternators.
IIRC you just have to buy a harness for the 2nd alt and its plug and play. Merchant was selling them at one point.

I know my old bone stock CS-144 would put out an honest 80 amps at a 550 idle on my 6.5(could run all 6 lights, both airs on high, and never had a problem holding 14 volts at an idle). The AD-244 is doing just as good as it has never had a problem holding 14 volts with both airs, headlights, and the travel trailer hooked up running the fridge and charging the batteries in it.
So I poped the belt off today and then spun the pully on the front of the alternator. It squeaks/chirps. The mechanic where we work says if I want to save a few dimes I could pull the altenator apart and put graphite dust on the bushings. Seems kind of temporary.
