high oil pressure

Just wondering what truck you own?

The spec from GM for a lb7 is

- min warm at idle is 14 psi ( seems low? )
- 1800 rpm = 42psi
- oil relief valve opens at 64psi

I thought its 74psi?

For a 03 from the GM manual it says 64 psi , Ive personally never checked to make sure GM was correct when they put it in there book?


Maybe, when they put that spec in there that is full open relief?

depending on where you are taking a reading from can make a difference also


I dont run a stock relief valve....As that would make my oil pressure very very very high!

Did some looking around in the fsm about symtoms of having high oil pressure and could not find anything saying it was bad or it would have a cause. Didn't looks for the specs about the pressure relieve valve but when I get home from class ill check my books agains for the specs about the oil pressure on the 01, everything is different on the original lb7

I drove it around and idles for 30 minutes waiting for my carpool this morning and my oil pressure went down to 40 psi.

Danny besides blowing my frost plugs from the oil gallery ( not common ) and you blowing the seal on the sensor ( not common)

I dont see the harm in running high oil pressure.


I would love to see the specs on the 01

check the oil squirter pressure also if you can

I need to I would need to find what I need to do that, a list of homemade. Adapters and hoses to check all the fluids for anything would be nice, I would like to beable to check return rates without them expensivefancy tools.

I also have access to an alldata acct for an 02, but I couldn't find the specs on the oil pressure.

some specs out of my fsm:


Oil Pressure @ 3250rpm: 4kg/cm^2 or 56.89psi
Oil Relief Valve Opening Pressure: 441kPa or 64psi
Piston Cooling jet valve opening pressure: 196kPa or 29psi

the turbo model is RHG6 made by Ishikawajima Harima Industries
