HID Projector Retrofit

Anyone have success retrofitting a projector for HID's? I have aftermarket headlights with low-beam projectors made for halogen bulbs. The quality is terrible with HID's....ie. cut off pattern, light dispersion, hot spot etc...I believe the lens was even burned from heat of HID as 6000k bulb appears yellow in color.

Here's my setup....looks horrible:

This is what is should look like:

I baked open a set of depo brand aftermarket housings and added some projectors from retrofit source.

I was still aiming them in this photo but am very happy with the results and would not go back to cheap projector housings.

I have had no other drivers flash me, maybe they are still aimed a little low.
I used the morimoto mini bi-xenon kit, called and told them what I wanted and they provided a real nice plug and play harness with relays.
Lows stay on and drop the cut off shutter during high beams and hid's for high as well.

ive had mine for about a year and a half so far and Im still 100% pleased with the results.

Not only is the cutoff sharp and focused, but the light output sweeps way "wide" and is even throughout. The weeds along side the truck are just as brightly/evenly illuminated as the area straight ahead.

Ive gotten so used to the excellent light output and sharp cutoff of the bi-xenon projectors that when I drive friends' trucks with "plug and play" HID kits stuffed into stock headlight housings, I realize just how poor the light output of those setups is...

Okay, here's the deal I talked to TRS today:

1. Aftermarket "halo projector headlights" are POS. Halogen projector = nothing more than cheap chrome plated reflector bowl and beam cutoff plate. Mine are ruined from 55w HID bulbs (duh).

2. Buy OEM clear headlights (2002 model). Ebay? Good source would be nice :)

3. Retrofit OEM headlights w/ TRS projectors.

4. Since I have 55/50w h1 bulbs, if I want to use DS2 bulbs (TRS recommended), I will need AMP>DS2 ballast adapter & (2) DS2 bulbs

5. Decide which projector works best for OEM housing. Headlights are small. TRS recommended Bi-xenon: Morimoto Mini D2S 2.0.

6. Select shrouds.

Ben,

I want quad bi-xenon projectors in low beam & high beam location. Using splitters from TRS, how would a wiring schematic look to properly power both low beam & high beam? Is there a way to have both projectors (low & high) running low beam together and high beam when desired? When triggered, I want both low & high projector's solenoid to flip the cutoff plate up when high beams are selected. Is this possible?

Also might try to fab up mini projectors for fog lights since I have 35w HID's for those too. I definitely have my work cut out for me. Should be a good project every afternoon after work.

Here's a fellow TRS customer with similar lights (2002 model). Looks great!

Not to step on Ben's toes but trs will build you the harness to accomplish what you want and their quality is top notch with decent prices. I had contemplated what your proposing but the alignment is going to be more difficult because you won't be able to adjust each individual projector in one headlight housing, that will need to be done at the time of projector mounting before resealing the housing. There is a thread on hid planet with someone doing just that in a nbs.

I spent nearly $450 today with TRS on quad setup. I'll keep you posted.
