Well I believe I'm now in a predicament :(

It appears that I have a pressurized coolant reservoir with the surge side level rising slowly. New reservoir and cap have also been installed this summer. Still have random low coolant warnings on the cluster every 3-4 months. Recent coolant pressure test didn't show anything external even with dye added.

Upper rad hose is rock hard while idling and after shutdown. After overnight it's feels like a stiff tennis ball when trying to squeeze it. In the morning, coolant level on pressure side of tank (driver side) goes down to the seam (has been topped off previous morning with cold motor) and the surge side (passenger side) level appears to possibly risen. When I remove the reservoir cap it's gurgles like mad with bubbles coming out the bottom of the surge side and the level on the pressure side rises back to the top. Operating temperature of the motor has never gone over operating temp and system was bled recently at the dealer trying to diagnose this ordeal. I will not use the dealer going further with this, ofcourse they say it's normal.

Truck is at 118 miles and is all original aside from deletes including EGR and replacement stock turbo (due to frozen PCV reroute and blowing out the exhaust side of the turbo seal). I caught the truck blowing oil out the exhaust within a couple minutes of driving. Roadside I cut the frozen section out and limped it home. Put the PCV back to stock and all seemed well after swapping the turbo's. This incident occurred in March '18.

Now that I think about it, maybe the frozen PCV reroute negatively impacted the HG at that time?

I wish I had more access to a reputable diesel shop locally that I could trust with some feedback like others I have read on the forums.

Truck will remain deleted but essentially stock for power requirements so I was wondering while the HG was being repaired, what else I should consider replacing and/or upgrading? I will be getting the water pump and thermostats replaced for sure.

LMLs are tough to diagnose head gaskets compared to previous years. They seem to run higher pressure in the cooling system. I would start by checking all your hoses from the egr delete. Check water pump for drips. If those check out fine I would say it's time for head gaskets.

If you do head gaskets I would install the new cp4 failure kit(1700.00 for pump, injectors and rails. No core). New water pump. New glow plugs. New belt. Also if your egr delete kit has the plate on up pipe replace it or weld riser shut.

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve looked over all the egr delete hoses (well all hoses I can see) after adding dye to the coolant. Using the uv light I didn’t see anything. I also checked the water pump and didn’t seeing and drips there either.

The crazy gurgling/bubbling in the coolant reservoir when removing the cap seems to not be normal after sitting overnight. If there was a leak, would that not cause less pressure in the system? Cap has been replaced twice with no change.

I was contemplating the Exergy System Saver mprop upgrade. Can’t seem to find any in stock but it sounds like there’s newer version coming out?
