Ok for probably the 50th time that this has been asked, how many teeth on the lb7 lly, and how many on the lbz lmm?

Thats what all of us had figured. Seems to be a common mistake. Dont worry as its easily fixed

Thanks to everyone for the help. My learning curve on D-Max engines just took a big leap forward.

Talked with the machine shop this morning and enlightend them on the situation. They claimed to be ignorant of the difference between the reluctor wheels as well (shocking I know) but did offer to replace whatever needed swapped out but would not accept responsibility for outside labor. There is a third party involved who supplied most of the parts used in this build (besides me and the machine shop) so that complicates it further.

Thankfully the shop helping me with the swap has been great to work with.

if you really wanna "blank" rig it, you can take a small grinder and hack saw and cut some notches in the upper oil pan. If you do that, you can line up the big space in the teeth enough to where its possible to slide if off without pulling the upper oil pan. Then when you put the front cover back on, just make sure theres lots of the GM RTV goop filling in the notches.

I did that because I needed to swap reluctor wheels when I put my LBZ shortblock in. So rather than having to pull both pans, flywheel and rear cover.....I spent 15 minutes with a hacksaw and swapped them out like that. No leaks or anything...

I am open to anything that keeps me from having to mess with the pan.

Motor is back out sitting on the floor. The nice thick billet main girdle attached to block & front cover made things even more of a PITA so it came back out. One day I can look back on all this and laugh - just not any time soon.
