Help - new engine start-up code p0336

New motor is in. It cranks over and only trys to fire a time or two after cranking over for a few seconds but it never starts. Rail pressure goes up to around 7000psi while cranking but injectors don't ever seem to fire.

Each time I get DTC code p0336 (Crankshaft Position Sensor A) - status MH
I also logged PID - "Cam Reference Pulses Missed" shows 37 - 40 counts after several seconds of cranking.

I swapped out both sensors with the ones that were in my original LBZ but is has not made any difference (code still shows up). I can see & feel the cam relucter plate behind the cam sensor. I never looked at the crankshaft relucter on the new build since I picked the engine up from the machine shop fully assembled with the front cover installed, cam, heads, and valvetrain installed. They are a reputable machine shop with several D-Max builds under their belt.

Suggestions on what to try next??

Check on the which relucter wheel he used. Also check crank and cam position sensors are not crossed. You can plug them backwards at least on a LLY.

Can you count the teeth on the reluctor wheel when it is installed?

I forget ones like 47 and ones 48. I think the lbz wheel is gold. I may be wrong and someone please correct me if I am

John I looked at that pic of your motor that you had up, Hard to tell it looks gold, You can mix the wires up on the cam and crank sensors.

Thank you all for the feedback. We thought we might have the sensor wiring reversed (as the plugs look identical). We swapped those and it did not help (in fact the motor did not want to crank over more than once like that).

We checked the PNs on the crank/cam sensors that were in the front cover as it came from the machine shop and they were different than what came out of my LBZ's front cover so we swapped mine into the front cover. That did not seem to make a difference (still showing the p0336 code).

I will count the teeth on my stock LBZ's relucter wheel and then see if I can count those on the one in my new motor (not sure that is even possible without some disassembly).

I'll call the machine shop Monday morning to get his opinion.

Thanks again
John
