Ok so I got the head gaskets done and buttoned the engine up. First question is how do you fill the coolant up. I am filling it from the resivoir, but it keeps coming out the overflow ..

Second question is after I finally got it to fired up it makes like a chugging sound like when the turbo vanes are closing and opening. It also seems to turn on at a high idle when it finally turns over.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I wondered about you, don't think you ever reply'd on FB.
I had to plug the overflow hose b/c when I poured coolant in it hit the mouth and went down the tube.
Not sure on the noise without hearing it, no codes from maybe a sensor that didn't get plugged back in ?

Steve did you back the valve adjustment off when removing the rockers ? Some guys have tried just removing them and installing without adjusting the valves. If someone did this and mixed them up from side to side on reinstall it could cause trouble.

I backed the valve adjusters off and then took the rocker assembly out. I reset the backlash when I reinstalled them. I followed the instructions out of the helm books that Chris lent me.

Truck will sit and idle fun and then it seems like when the vanes open and close on the turbo, is when it makes the chugging sound.

There is a check engine light on, but I have not had a chance to pull the codes, I finished up and got it started late last night.

As far as the adding coolant, I have the bleeder screw open to let the air out so coolant will fill up, but it seems like its just not taking it fast enough. :confused:

for the coolant, try holding your finger over the bleed hole and squeezing the upper radiator hose and burping the system. sounds like you have a air bubble. you may have to burp it a few times

We removed mine w/o unadjusting them; reinstalled on the same side and a few were way out so they may have needed adjustment already.

Same here, at least you didn't have to replace the bypass o ring 5 times :mad:

Chris that's a good way of breaking the rockets main shaft and also bend or breaking a tip off a pushrod. Alittle hard to get a good tq reading on the rocker stand bolts with pressure forcing on it.

Steve, that happened to me when I did head gaskets on an lly out here, got it all done and about a day later the water pump started leaking out the weep hole. I have heard that water pumps tend to go after replacing blown head gaskets. Sucks having to go back in and replace it after you were just in there.

I assume from the trash that may get in the system when cleaning the deck surface ? I installed a coolant filter on mine while it was down.
