I have thought about just buying a SoCal damper, just right now money is tight and if I can fix it for short money I need to get my truck back up and running. Its on my list of pieces to upgrade.

Yeah my buddy and I just my pump last week, I dont understand we tightened the balancer and it was fine for a week. I even played with my buddies Camaro on the highway on wednesday night was on it for all it had.
When you tightened it, did you follow the GM tightening spec for the balancer bolt??

Not sure he has done plenty of others with no problems, so I assume so.
Just so you know for next time, the spec is torque to 74 lb ft then use a torque angle meter to turn it another 105 degrees.

Thanks, I will make sure to pay attention to that.

Like I said, I would love to have a SoCal damper, I just have to wait until I can free up some funds.

Crankpin repair went well, drilled really easy and we made a new pin seemed that 3/16" was a little too small so we used the next size up.

I had noticed a leak between the trans and t case and after the balancer nightmare it had gotten worse, so I figured we could fix it while it was on the lift, just as my luck goes it wasn't just a bad gasket btween the trans and transfer case.................the rear housing on my trans is cracked!!!!!!

Seems like this truck is broken more than not!!!!!!! Oh well we have another trans for parts, we will fix it this weekend.

Some pictures of the broken trans:

Also would the balancer pin being broken and shaking the hell out of everything leave these marks on my converter? Looks like the flywheel bolts were rubbing or hitting the converter???

Here is where my truck likes to be lately:

So as my luck goes...............we got the rear housing swapped out and the trans back in the truck everything was going smooth, too smooth. I filled up with fluid and went home. Go to the garage this morning to move it out and clean up my mess and the truck backs up fine and pulls ahead about 6 feet before it throws a P1711 code and seem like its slipping going ahead, but still backs up fine. I read the P1711 is a solenoid E problem I guess we must have got some dirt or something in there????

My truck just doesn't wanna come out and play this weekend!!!! I hope its just something minor and can be fixed fast.

Shear Pin Size?

I also sheared my pin for the harmonic balancer and noticed the hole is larger than the 3/16" hole mentioned earlier. Is theere a correct shear pin available to replace the oroginal rather than a drill bit shank? Does anyone know if is a split pin or what? Thanks

Rebuild my Duramax LML and got some pins machined into them by a local machine shop last year

Looks like no body else I can find that does that, not sure how they came up with it , but works for me! :hail:
