I was beating on my truck last night and I backed out of the throttle and the truck started to shake violently, at first I thought it was a tire but when I stopped and it was idling and still shaking bad, I knew it was worse.

I had orignally thought it was the harmonic balancer, I got up early and went out to check on it, the bolt was loose...............so I tightened it think that was the issue I started it and still had the vibration. I drove it to my buddies shop and had him look it over. I pulled the balancer and found that the pin in the crank that holds the balance was sheared off!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!

How can I get it out? I don't want to pull the motor and have the crank keyed. Has anyone had this issue? How did you fix it?

HELP

LMAO, we just did one on Steves truck yesterday
Drill it out
Shank end of a 3/16" drill bit will make a new pin :D
Locktite the bolt after cranking on it

Make sure you credit B & B fab shop for the crank repair....LOL

Been there in same position . Hopefully your balancer comes off easy . Mine siezed on the sheered pin . Once you get balancer off , you can push sheered pin in and remove through bolt hole .

Replace and reinstall balancer . Might want to replace bolt . Locktite and tighten . When you think its tight , give it another pull with long breaker bar and someone holding flywheel .

I know how that felt feeling your motor violently shaking .... really sucks .

Sorry for your luck .

Exactly ..... dealer just did my water pump and I had just left dealer about 10 miles away and ...... oh crap ... felt like someone added 10 pnd weight to one side of my crank all in a split second at 3500 rpm . Just flogged it hard and shifted 4-5 full tilt holding 4 back manually . Shook the truck really bad . Suprised it didnt damage anything else . Good way to break a dmax crank .

I wasnt to happy with them . My new motor with about 2000 miles on it .

All I thought was ... so much for a balanced motor . :(

Yeah my buddy and I just my pump last week, I dont understand we tightened the balancer and it was fine for a week. I even played with my buddies Camaro on the highway on wednesday night was on it for all it had.

I can push the pin through??? Or do we have to drill it?

Thanks for all your input guys!

As a side note and only a recommendation. If you have a pin shear off. (you will know it immediately). Do not drive the truck. Shut it off as soon as possible. Have it towed. Continuing to drive the truck wil allow the balancer to slip on the crank and it can play hell on the nose of the crank and the inside of the balancer. It will make it very difficult to get the balancer off and could ruin the crank. A suggestion would be to remove the drive belt to eliminate the load caused by the accessories if you need to drive the truck a short distance. Best thing for everyone to do is take the time and check the tightness on the bolt..............

Yeah I had to drive mine a short distance, the balancer did come right off with my hands. The crank looks ok hopefully its a matter of drilling the old pin out and installing a new one.

How did you make sure you were drilling straight? Did you fab up a jig? Also is that pin hardened? Thanks for your help.

You might want to consider a SoCal Super Damper while it is apart. Our damper presses on to the crank like a SBC or BBC, this way it doesn't work the pin like the stock slip fit damper.
