My idea was to be completely hidden. Maybe recommended by a friend or something. I noticed malibus situation and if there were someone in charge of this we could just tell them and not the individual. Just post up someone needs help, raise some money and then send it to them. maybe have the person or persons in charge contact said member and ask how much they need within reason to get caught up or would at least help out.. Even if it was given to save a truck but said person needed groceries and to pay electric bill-just as long as we could help. If done right it would almost be abuse proof. Plus, I am sure our members are better people then to advantage of this idea.

I think this is an awesome idea! id glady give what i can, wouldnt be much as things are really tight but atleast i can give all i can to help someone who may be worse of than i. What if we jsut set up another bank account/paypal account for just this, then using paypal we could transfer in what we wanted to contribute, then in the time of giving, you jsut get the fellows email and paypal them or widthdraw the money and send them a money order (if they cant do paypal) Id think it would make it easy ofr us to put money in and fairly easy to give money to the person in need . the only prob is the 3% fee paypal charges :(

The money would be given to the person as a gift through paypal. For now, Paypal doesn't charge the service fee on gift transfers. ;)

Remember that when purchasing/paying for something with Paypal too. Just send the money as a gift and no fees apply.

I ama memeber on one of the other forums you speak of. The first time they did it was back when it first started and the recipient was unaware of what was going on. He had also given a lot to the community and was well known as a upstanding person.
You will have to get a mod involved as the thread will have to be hidden from said recipient.
The other thing is $10 is not a lot of money per person but if 500 people donate you now have $5000.00. Thats a substantial amount and should not be taken lightly.

I would say you would need Pat to sign off on this as well, just in case there are problems in the future.

That said, depending on the person, I would donate to help the cause.
