My first ever truck in my life - 2014 Chevy 2500Hd diesel. I tow my race car TPD 24 box. Been very happy w its capability. So far I changed head unit and upgraded speakers w JL sub. I love the truck! I did have some dfi issues that was covered under warranty but so far with 9800 miles since April 2014, truck has been good.

Any local SoCal diesel shops that can change fluids for me? Chevy does two year free oil changes but only when computer countdown goes to under 20% or something. I like to change oil every 5k miles.

Its a wast of oil to change it that often. The Dmax is very easy on oil and can go 16K on a quality non-syn oil per UOAs.

I disagree. It all depends on the oil temperature and load on the engine. Ideally, higher oil temperature and heavy engine load on the oil decrease the oil lubricity properties over time than normal driving.

I tow a heavy 5th wheel and when not towing I often end up making infrequent short (less than 10 mile) trips, so I change oil & filter when the DIC reaches 40%-50% or so since the truck sits a lot. Oil is cheap.

Thats fine. Its been proven via 1000s of UOA you can trust the DIC within reason on oil changes. Just keep in mind new oil isn't as clean as you think and you introduce those partials on every oil change. Really its splitting hairs engines hardly ever fail because the wear out.

Yeah definitely. Especially since we end up blowing things up anyway with what we put our trucks though.

Thanks for all the info guys. So I guess it comes down to personal preference. Chevy offers 2 years oil change for free and just got one at stealer at 6700 miles or so when my truck DIC said less than 20%. Guys at stealer told me I should get fluids changed out at 5000 miles esp if I'm only using for towing.

I use synthetic, so when my DIC says 1% is when I change it... ends up being just under 10k for me usually.

Not sure why the GM dealer is telling you to ignore all the research and engineering GM put into the oil life monitor...

You won't really hurt anything changing the oil at 5k miles. But you can easily go over 10k miles. My truck had nearly 300,000 miles on the motor before I built the motor, and everything looked great with my 10,000 to 12,000 mile changes.

lol nothing gets people worked up more than a discussion on oil change intervals. In the end, it is your truck, do what you want. :thumb:

I just use good old fashioned Delo and change every 3k. However, there is a lot of truth to how few of these engines die to lubricity problems ... I guess it just turned into a habit.
