Does anyone have a pic of how the t-stats sit in the housing? Are they both the same t-stat?
No, they are not both the same. I don't have a picture, but the spring part goes on the bottom.

Put them in a pot of water with a thermometer and bring to a boil. Check what temp they open at on thermometer. Doing it with a torch could verywell have gotten rid of whatever was keeping it closed. Torches get HOT!!!!:D

If your hose is hard from driving then you might have a blown headgasket. Pull your glow pliugs and look for any signs of coolant in the cylinder. Or sweet smelling smoke out the exhaust.

Now heres a little more info....right after the rebuild it was hydrolocking after the engine was shut off and sat for a couple hours. And he found two bolts that bolt the intake manifold to the head, and they are located in the intake y bridge. He said those bolts go through a water jacket and several guys on here said bull shit. So anyways he pulled those bolts and pipe doped them and now its not hydrolocking. But before he sealed those bolts it wasnt overheating!
