I have a feeling this is a stupid question but i just want to be sure.

my new block is bored 40 over and i already have standard bore grade C gaskets, i was doing a little measuring and the gaskets i have should not hang over into the cylinder but i am just not sure if it will work out using these gaskets.

Thanks for the help

I am pretty sure the standard gaskets are good to a 40 over block if not a little more.

I was wrong with what I posted. I just did some searching and it looks like the gaskets you need are:

Block Over-Bored .030" and Deck Milled .008" - The thickest OEM Dmax gasket, .010" thicker than a C.

97358466 Left
97358465 Right

I dont know if these will fit a .40 bore but there are 5 different gaskets from gm. A,B,C, Overbore, Overbore + Deck Milled

I know for sure the stock bore gaskets will work with a block that is bored .020 over, but I'm not sure about a .040 overbore.

Best bet is to lay the gasket on the block and see if the gasket hangs over the bore. If it doesn't, you should be fine.

after all of this, and not sure when the correct gaskets will arrive at the dealer my though is: are the cali heads really that bad compared to the federal heads that i was going to use.

the motor i bought has cali heads already on it and i have a set of federal heads, just wondering if there is enough of a difference to go to all this trouble????
