any updates on how ya like the new set up?
Sorry,
Forgot about this post for a while. It has been running fantastic!
Mileage is up slightly if I am careful, it went up 0.4 mpg on the 175hp tune.
The tunes from Pat are spectacular! I have not run the race tune yet because with the snow and ice, I can blow the tires off with the 175 tune in 4WD. I have run up to the 200hp tune and rail pressure is off slightly from desired, but I do not think I am anyway near draining the rails. Pat really does know how to tune a truck.
It is cool to hear the turbo sing, my wife is complaining about the additional noise, not so much the turbo but the PPE lift pump. That bugger is LOUD.
There is a little turbo lag compared to the stocker if you stab the throttle. If you creep into it, the HTT lights off just fine. I am not sure how the HTT really compares to the IHI (in terms of turbo lag), because I added some RDL up-pipes at the same time as the turbo install. I think it will spool faster than using the stock up-pipes. The turbo lighting can be a little unnerving the first few times because the truck WAKES UP. Keep in mind I am doing this on crappy road surfaces with snow and ice and studded snow tires, not dry pavement with summer street tires.
I also put on a set of Caltracs when the turbo was going in. When I can find some try pavement, the truck just launches. I believe that I was feeling a little axle wrap last summer. I think that has gone away. I know that some folks do not like the Caltracs because they tend to lift the front of the truck on launch, but with my CC/LB, I think I have enough weight forward that it just cannot pick the front like the lighter, shorter trucks. Keep in mind that I have not done a true boosted launch yet...still waiting for good roads and no studded tires.
All in all, I love the turbo. Would I do it again....yes.
Do I want to go faster? Well, duh....:rofl:
We will see what happens after the shop gets built. If I have any $$ left over, I may end up with dual CP3's, MPI big twins, or both....and then start saving $$ for the new rods.
One comment, the guys at HTT are great, but their instructions leave a little to be desired in my opinion. It is not a hard installation, but there are some parts that are just a PITA. I know that some folks say they can do a complete installation in 4-6 hours, but I think that is on trucks that have had the parts off before, not a truck that had 140k miles before the turbo needed to be removed. My recommendation is if you have not done the installation before, do not be in a hurry. Take your time, and do it right. At least for me, if I get in a hurry I usually end up doing it twice.
