On the lly do you have to remove the injectors? does it make it easier? How about the a/c powersteering bracket?

Thanks

I havent done an lly but i would just to get them out of the way and make sure you dont accidentally slip off and hit an injector. You can just unbolt the a/c compressor and push it off towards the passenger side battery.

well the injectors are out, I havent figured out how I am going to clean that bore. The shop vac just got more sand and grass down in it. Maybe some oil on a stick. Anyway the copper washers on the tip of the injector..do they have to be replaced? Are they a GM only item.

Kat how does he clean the bore the injectors sllide into as mine have dust and dirt on in them?

Also the rubber o ring goes in the groove on the injector body right? not against the shoulder? Correct. Or do I have that backards?

Get a piece of 1/4" copper tubing and wrap it to the shop vac hose with duct tape, it may whistle a little but it'll be a real super sucker. You could tape a piece of scotchbrite to one side of the 1/4" line and scrub and vac same time. I used to do this all the time when cleaning out holes fror "red heads"/expansion anchors.

The washers can be found at Ace hardware. Take one with u and match it up, Lowes has them as well (watch the thickness). I got some from there as well. If you buy them from GM, they cost $4 retail and $2.50 shop rate, IIRC.

As James says get something to suck it out. You don't want to push it into your engine.

I will make an attachment for the vac tom. My injector holes have a lot of oil in them.

Also the tips have a ton of carbon build up.

Carbon build up is ok, IMO.

Heads up, i heard somebody cleaned the carbon off the tip with a wire wheel... bummer! The injectors are junk after you clean them with a wire wheel. I think it "smears" the orifice and changes the flow/spray characteristics.

You prolly already knew that but better to say, than not. No offense meant.

Yeh I just used carb cleaner. The lower valve cover center bolts were a PITA I stripped the head in one of them. I will post pics of how I got it out later tonight.

Anyways it appears that I need to pull the upper valve train. Do I? sry for all the noob questions, this is my first time in a motor (by myself).

I hope this worked. Anywho that is a 1/4 20 tap with the point and tapered center completely ground off, driven into the rounded allen socket on the bolt. The hard tap bites into the soft bolt as you turn to loosen it. Worked like a charm.

Another question, when I put the rocker arm shaft back on, it needs no adjustment right?

Anybody got the torque specs for the rocker arm caps and the lower and upper valve covers?

You should be fine as long as you put the pushrods in the excactly the same way they went, thats if you are pulling them out. If you get them out of order you need to run you overhead.
