you dont have to pull the motor to do it  it tight in some areas but everything will come out with the motor in the truck

Where did I ever say you had to pull the motor. i said to save some trouble ie makeing it easier not dicking with tight spaces< wasted time. especially when puting the studs in and geting the heads back on it will be even tighter. Pulling the motr is much easier then dicking with it in the truck imo but to each there own.

dont take it personnal just sounds like one of my friends thats the way he does it and there is no other way. he pulled the motor when he was at work then went in asked for a raise. they said no and he quit. the thing is i do it in the truck because i just cant tell the customer i have to charge to pull the motor to take the heads off. its a little tight but its not that bad. it did not take to long to pull the heads off verses pulling the motor.

X2, the first time i did my truck i put the headstuds in with the motor in the truck, yea you can do it but its a pita, as quick as you can pull a motor, if you have the tools, i would never do one with the motor in the truck again, as for pointers, when you get the heads and old headgaskets off make sure you clean up the surface before you put the new hg's on, id use a high speed and some kind of of a soft sand paper wheel, and then blow all the holes out before you put the new studs in, follow the torqueing procedures, and get ready for a pretty good project.:D

I would do it in the truck, 4hrs for the motor out and 4-5 for the motor back in on top of tearin the motor down. I did mine in the truck, i can get the heads off in 4 hrs. and have a new set of gaskets in and ready to run in 6-7.. Ill do it in the truck..

here's a pic and a place to buy the intake riser pipe to delete the egr, if you look closly, it easy enough to make your own, I'm assuming your dealing with your LLY, the LBZ is different.
