I just got off the phone with Terry at Prcision. Converter was shipped back to Champion last week at no charge except shipping. If you want the full story call me.

Sorry Mike, didn't mean to insuate that we/he paid for shipping back, I made an ASSumption (we were initially told we would be paying shipping both ways)and was incorrect (my bad ). I guess I was hoping they would have overnighted it due to there being an issue with it and it was a longer turn around time than I was told it usually takes. Maybe unrealistic expectations on my part.

I have a side business and have proactively "ate" the cost of time/materials to keep a customer happy. I have even screwed up a time or two (OK maybe 3 :D), but have done what I can to make it right. Am I perfect......no, very far from it, so I cannot cast stones.

As stated I still believe Precision has a good product (results speak for themselves), but I hate always being on the wrong end of the "shit stick". I guess I could not have expected them to know my truck has been down for over 5 weeks. I'm not even totally upset with how they handled it, especially if they handled it per their policy (I put my expectations on them without letting them know the situation and that is my fault).

I'm just very frustrated in general with traveling for work (just got back from Texas and dealing with all the swine flu drama, which thanks to a colleaque of mine, turned into an issue for both of us at the airport), running behind on my side business from being away, trying to do my duties as President for our club, etc. it's just been overwhelming (although nobody's problem but my own).

I like to do things right and not rush (or be rushed), so I try to offer that courtesy to others. I still would rather wait 6 more weeks (did I just say that ) and have a working tranny, than get it back in a day and have issues a little while down the road.......but being without it is still tough. I told Mat no rush (and I meant it), but it seems like the converter has been one of the key issues holding us up so I got a little moody :joker::angel:.

I try not to be negative and unfortunately my posts on this subject have seemed to turn that way, so I am going to end it here as to not cause any more drama or make incorrect statement/assumption which can turn ugly on the internet, hope for the best, and I'll let everyone know when I'm up and running again.

Thanks for the support everyone.

You post all this stuff with a bunch of whining but you never state that the person who sold you the stuff can't handle taking care of a warranty Why not? Why didn't you blast him? You took this public putting the blame on the wrong person while your converter was being rebuilt at no charge. Unbelievable.
You say you got a little moody? You became a little bitch.

Wow, that's just a little harsh. So did the converter clutch delaminate and take out the trans or not? You seem to think it's okay to blast the person that built the trans (who may or may not even be to blame?), but it isn't okay to blast the converter company (who may or may not be to blame)? Why not set the record straight?

I stated I was going to leave this thread alone, but feel I should respond to the statement above.

Mike, I'm sorry you feel that way. You have helped myself and others out and I still respect you. I don't know if this hit "home" as I know you worked with Precision on building this converter. It was not meant to attack the design, function, or makers of the unit. As I stated the converter has worked awesome and unfortunately I got the one that delaminated (anyone who knows me, knows it would be my luck to get the 1 in a million with an issue).

You stated I blamed the wrong "person", but who did I blame other than myself? I did not blame you, Mat, Eric, anybody at Precision (other than the secretary for giving me the wrong price quote and not being able to find the order right away but that was "minor")

The first person I tried to call after the truck started having major issues, is the person who built my transmission. I thought it was the courteous thing to do even though I know he couldn't help me "physically" from that distance, but thought I would give him the chance to suggest a shop or maybe things to try for diagnosis. Unfortunately he was very slow (several days) at returning phone calls. When I did get ahold of him, he did say there wasn't much he could do from that far away but to have someone look at it and see what was going on. He said once the truck was back up and running, to give him a call and let him know if there was anything he needed to do or have the tranny shop call him. When I dropped the truck off, I faxed a copy of the original Merchant invoice to Mat so if there were any issues/questions he had the information in front of him and could talk to Eric direct.

Initially while waiting for Eric to return my call and wondering what I was going to do with a truck that would hardly move, I made two phone calls, one to you and one to Mat. Both were very helpful on the phone. I went to Mat as he is local and several have spoke highly of him, and asked Mat to give you a ring as you are probably the best at building these transmissions and have seen many failures and know what to look for. From what I recall several weeks ago, when Mat tore it apart, there were two bad clutch packs (C1 and C3) along with a nick in the oring on the apply piston (going from memory here). From what I was told there was no definitive answer on what caused it (builder, parts failure, accident related, dumb luck, etc.). What we did know is that there was debris in the transmission. I did some searching on the forums and the concensus was that we should have the converter cleaned/checked. I called the company and was told one thing ($275), while you and Mat told me another (which was better than what I heard....free with us paying shipping). Again a minor issue at best.

At this point there was nothing or no-one to blame (at least not definitively). It wasn't until we found out the converter clutch delaminated that there was something definitive we knew failed. Initially I posted to see if this was common and/or reasons for it (no blame was placed). I posted up asking what the warrantee is on converters (in general), to which I still don't have a response.

Merchant was the vendor that sold/installed it for me, but I don't expect him to pay for it (especially with it sitting in someone elses shop) as it's not a converter he built in-house. There might be things I'm not happy with Eric about, but this is not one of those. I did not have the option of bringing my transmission out to him to have him diagnose it. I figured if there was a warrantee issue on his work, Mat and him would work it out....

I stated several times that Precision makes a good product (I never onces bashed their "wares" as some would and have in similar situations). How many threads have we seen with "ATS sucks" or "Suncoast sucks", etc? I even went as far to say that I may have been disappointed (and even stated it was probably my unrealistic expectations) but that I didn't hate their company or think they were not worth doing business with. I even told Tim not to let my experience keep him from buying a PI converter. I even stated that it worked well for me.

I may be crying about not having my truck to drive, but I won't apologize for that. I spent good money to have a reliable trans and it failed and now I'm shelling out more (cost me over $370 just to have it flatbedded there, between what the flatbed guy charged me, putting fuel in several people's trucks to get my truck moved initially, etc), I don't think too many people would be happy about that. There are post on here and other sites every day where people are having issues with their built tranny's and I don't think I've seen one where they are happy about it.

If I was a little bitch I would have accused Eric of making a poor tranny without sufficient proof or came on here and posted a "Precision Industries Converters Suck!" thread, but I don't believe either of those to be true....

If I'm a "little bitch", I'll accept it.

Again Mike, I think you are an asset to this community and sorry you feel that way.

i understand you have issues with the person who sold and installed Chris's tranny, but i think this is extremely uncharacteristic of you, who has been in the loop since this failure and of someone he bought a product from. I know Chris personally and I KNOW he is not whining, he is simply looking for answers, much like I was when i had my failure, and i WAS bitching and wanting to bash Suncoast for being assholes.

I'll just post this for now. Like I said over the phone, any time I have had a converter issue in the past(they do happen) I have never been reimbursed even if it wipes out a trans I just built. It's just the nature of the beast. Whomever I bought it from will be glad to send me a new converter but they would laugh at me if I ask them to cover the other trans repairs needed to make it right. That's just the way it has been ever since I have been doing this.

Chris, your converter is here and I hope to have the truck up and running tomorrow. When you get a chance today, please give me a call.

I am posting due to my transmission being fixed and the truck is back in my possession. I've put over 100 miles on it since this morning split between normal and tow/haul. Most of the shifts were smooth but there were a few downshifts that needed to be learned (Mat said they would need to though so I was fully expecting it). I have even towed my enclosed trailer with it doing my side job and after seven weeks without it, it's NICE to have it back. Going to take it easy for a while and lean on it a little next week (haven't wanted to do any heavy throttle until the trans learns the lower levels 99.9%).

I need to thank Mat and Mike L. for their help. Both answered their phones right away and/or got back to me quickly when I had questions. Mat was awesome to deal with, treated me fair, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if the need arises (hopefully for a different tranny :D). Anyone in the area should give him a call if they need tranny work.

Thanks again to you both and to Tim and others for the offers for the help/rides/etc.
